Bill_on_a_bike Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 An engine case seal or the central gasket down the middle of the case?Wemoto's only got the full gasket set if you need the middle one.http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=2147978If it is that central seal it's going to be a hell of a job to do, pretty much complete engine strip. Guest Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 hi, more info about the problem.crank case pressurising, and will start 1st time when cold, but after warmed up, struggles to start, but when running runs great, if you take the oil cap of it will start up 1st time when warm, what could this be. which seal could this be.thanks Quote
Bill_on_a_bike Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Sounds like too much seal rather than not enough. Blocked breather pipe? Is it burning oil? Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) hi, i dont no much about bikes, where is the breather pipe, also what do you mean by sounds like too much seal rather than not enoughthanks:Edit it's not burning oil, could it because there is to much oil in the bike, because it is above the glass window on the bottom sump. but if there was to much oil in the bike it would be burning it. Pete Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I don't know about your crank case seal problem but try and get that oil level back down. It's not good at all to have it too high Quote
Bill_on_a_bike Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 What i meant was if the seal had gone that pressure would escape but clearly it isn't.The breather pipe goes from the back of the crankcase somewhere up to the airbox, but if your oil level is too high that'll be what's causing the pressure. Let some out of the sump plug then top up until it's between the lines of the sight glass. Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 your breather will be at the top of the engine, any lower and it would let oil out.. get a syringe and tube and syphone out the oil, until it is visible in the sight glass, if you have too much oil you are over pressuring the system and are likely to pop an internal seal, do this and see if it solves your woes.. by taking the filler cap off you are releasing this pressure.. get a syringe from evil bay, or a vets.. they have large ones to feed animals.. i have one for bleeding brakes amongst other tasks.. Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Bill, dropping the oil from the sump is over kill unless your doing an oil change anyway.. you'll have to let it all out and then refill...... Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 XV750, heres a link to CMS in Holland, they have exploded diagrams and parts list with numbers, helps show what is where, use the part numbers to get from your local yamaha dealer or buy online, i've used them and no problems..http://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xv750-virago_model16857/from the pictures, you have a black tube coming off the top off the cylinder head, thats the breather.. but sort out your oil level, it should fix this issue.. Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 hi guys, thanks very very much, there was to much oil in the bike, my dad has taken just over a litre out today, and is just about half full, on the glass, do you check it when it's on the centre stand, or side stand, my dad has had a ride round on it today, and it seems fine, and it has started 1st time for him, but speedo cable has snapped, many thanksJames Quote
Pete Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Taken a litre out and it's now halfway up the glass, damn that's a lot of oil! You check it when it's on the centre stand, nice and level. If you check it on the side stand the glass will most likely look empty.Broken cables are usually easy enough to change, just get a new one and get to work! Quote

Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 hi, ive notice 1 or 2 speedo cable's on ebay, for £10 including postage. i checked the oil on the centre stand and it was half way, i also need a left side panel for the bike. cant find one anywhere.thanks Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 try an online bike breaker.. you specify the part, they contact you if they have one..http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q= ... kers&meta= Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 hi, my brother went back to crewe on my bike tonight he said it ran fine, but near tatton park he decided to turn of the engine to see if the bike still didnt start when warm, he said that, it still does it, but not as much, since i drained the oil, what could this still be, i still havnt checked the breather pipe should i try this in the morning when my broher comes over. and where is the oil filter could this have dirt in it, i dont no if it has ever been changed, where abouts is the oil filter. could the choke or something be stuck on, or need a new cable. thanks Quote
