Hot_Stu Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Washed my helmet lining at the weekend (for the first time this year )You would not beleive how much dirt came out ... I was quite ashamed Also the pads puffed back up again and the fit is better. So come on people wash those helmets before the really sweaty weather !!! Quote
Roadtorque Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 That's one bad thing about Shoei, don't know if they're all the same, but the lining in my mutitec is glued in £300+ & you can't wash the lining Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) Yep - guilty of a sweaty helmet. I stopped wearing my winter textile trousers and switched to kevlar jeans instead. All seems back to normal now.Well... someone had to say it! The lining is removable on my Caberg - I'm just worried that it will either shrink, or I'll never get it back in if I remove it. I always wear something over my head before I put on my helmet, so I'm hoping the lining is staying cleaner because of it. Edited June 16, 2009 by Anonymous Quote
Korben Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Always wear a thin balaclava which keeps the linig nice and clean on my lid... Quote
Ratser Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 This months Ride magazine has an attached booklet giving tips on (amongst many others) washing the inside of your lid, whether the lining is removable or not.Baby shampoo is the way to go apparently. Quote
Guest Mr Miller Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Nice one, mate! We've got a load left from the last one!Mind you, he's just gone 2 and he has a right headfull of hair so he'll need it more than me!Mrs. Miller's worrying cos she thinks I'm wanting him to have long hair like I used to have!Back on topic - remove lining if you can and wash - if it doesn't come out, are we talking just washing the whole lid with lining in-situ under the shower with a dribble of no-more-tears? Ratser Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Basically it says use luke warm water, then massage in the shampoo.Rinse with cold water until running clear, then leave to dry.Do not put in next to a boiler or on a radiator or anything like that.Hang it out on the line if possible.Worth buying the mag as it has loads of other hints and tips for maintenance too.Although I would guess you may find them online somewhere too. Guest Mr Miller Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I shamelessly admit to only buying bike mags when the free gift is of use! I have a Superbike Magazine bottle opener, a Bike magazine sponge and a Performance Bike brake reservoir sweat band thing!!I'd heard that you keep rinsing until clear so at least I'm on the right lines.I'm not sure if the Raid 2 lining comes out - I'll have a look at the destructions when I get home!Once again, thanks for your help! Ratser Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Fast Bike this month has a free lock cable. No idea how good it is, but I noticed it in the shop yesterday. Quote
Korben Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Fast Bike this month has a free lock cable. No idea how good it is, but I noticed it in the shop yesterday. Saw that as well... From the weight of it I reckon you could probably break it bare handed!!! Only bike mag I bought with free gift was one with the V2 Sponge... They have me now. Just bought a new V2 Sponge as I have knackered the last one out. Quote
