Can I do the CBT with no motorbike experience?

I haven't even been on a scooter! I've been driving cars for 6 years but would really like a 125 to save money and because it looks so much fun!

Do you think I'll have time to grasp the gears and everything or should I practice beforehand somehow?

Cheers

Welcome to the forum mate. Drop into the newbie section and introduce yourself!! :D :D

The day I sat my CBT I had never sat on a geared bike.... By the end of the day I had my CBT certificate and never had a single problem with the gears.

If you have been driving for 6 years you will understand the principles of gears so you will be fine mate!! :D

On a 125.... Probably about £300 - £350.

Alot depends on the bike, the storage and how clean your license is though... Try ringing round for a few quotes.

that's not too bad and cheap tax! I guess i'll get a lot more mpg out of a bike too? lol

Theoretically no one should have any experience at all before they sit their CBT :) Although we all know thats not always true!

Youll be fine, first time i had sat on a bike was on my CBT. Having driven, at least youve got the concept of gears and biting point, although it is quite different on a bike. It may not sound much but one of the guys i did my CBT with couldnt get the hang of gears, biting point and didnt understand what the clutch did at all even after explanation hundreds of times...some obviously arent meant for driving/riding though i guess.

I'd never even been on the back of a bike before my CBT in 07. Now riding 600 Hornet, but first bike was CG125 mpg was at least 100 or over! Never sure of claimed mileage by maker but that is certainly what I was getting.

We offer a taster hour, just like a lot of schools, to test the water before CBT. Sometimes it can help :D

I decided one Saturday morning to look at bikes out of interest simply as I was looking at ways to save money on fuel. Never even sat on a bike before I walked into the showroom. 4 hours later I had done the deal and was kitted out with clothing and the bike was to be delivered 3 days later. Tuesday morning turned up for my CBT with zero experience and had a great day. Wednesday morning I rode to work on my new bike :D

Just taken my bikes tank from full, rode it a week then filled it again, and calculated 103.5MPG on a YBR 125. Not bad compared to my Focus doing 32!!!

As for insurance, third party, fire & theft for me was £109.00, i reackon if I do something silly like falling off or dropping it I'll have the perfect excuse to have to learn to fix it myself. My bike's kept in a "secure compound" ( my locked back yard ), am 33 with a clean licence.

Thanks guys, feel more confident about it now! I'm thinking about a honda NSR 125 - Think they're a bit less mpg being highly tuned?
