Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 As a new biker I'm slowly building up my gear starting with the cheapest thing... the gloves!I only ride a 125cc and although I know this doesn't mean I should skimp on safety, I think these should do the job:http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/63/33585#I've no idea what's good and what's not so does anyone have any opinions on these gloves, or Richa as a brand? Korben Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Bit lacking on knuckle protection, but apart from that ok.... Quote
Guest philgale Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 gloves aint always the cheapest.....my boots were less than my gloves but then my gloves were 100 quid as korb says, not as much protection as you would prefer but still good enough if you slide down the road Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Thanks guys, when I have a bit more money I'll be looking to upgrading again to something around the £100 price mark with all the protection you can think of. But for now these are much better than my current gloves (an £8.99 pair).Thank you as always for the advice. Quote
Guest philgale Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 if need be have a look at hein-gericke they tend to do 0% if you spend a bit...might be an idea.... Quote
Pete Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 How about these ones mate:https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/view_de ... sa%20Glovehttps://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/view_de ... h%20GlovesBoth a bit cheaper than the ones you were looking at and offer some sort of knuckle protection. You could always check on ebay as well for some bargains. Oh and I know Aldi and Lidl sometimes do very decent gloves every now and then for about £30. My uncle bought a pair a while back as a second pair but ended up using them over his Hein Gericke ones! Quote
techno Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Never spent more than 45 quid on gloves there's plenty out there that have good levels of protection i have some spada ones at the moment they were featured in super bike mag. Oh and you'll need some summer and winter ones probably. Quote

Oh and you'll need some summer and winter ones probably. I agree. I managed to get through most of the winter with my summer gloves (because I like them) with my heated grips, but there was the odd occassion when I just needed to crack the winter gloves out! If I didn't I think there would have been finger tips falling off and all sorts of inconvenient things going on. Quote
martlewis Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I had similar leather gloves, tho look a bit tougher than them, thrown in with the deal when I got my bike. They're ok but I'm not keep on them, especially after getting them wet in the flooding... They kept my hands dry but soaked up loads of water making them heavy and they feel "stiff". I'm off to buy some better ones at the weekend. I'n my very limited experience your hands have a fair bit of work to do with switches, throttle, etc., so would suggest taking the time to get the right gloves. Quote
bbobeckyj Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I once heard that Richa are the best selling brand in England, so they must be ok. Try looking at Held gloves, prices range from about £20 to £150, and they came second in last year's rider power.http://www.held-biker-fashion.de/index. ... 1&fs=&lg=e Quote
Guest Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I have three sets of gloves that cover a wide range of prices. My first set were a pair of all-weather HG ones with goretex etc that were around £50 - these are excellent. My summer-ish pair are Dainese leather gloves, Hellracers I think, with excellent knuckle protection and thick leather pads everywhere... but of course these were more expensive at around £80. I was wearing these gloves when I had my recent accident and my hands were fine... there are scratches all over the leather and the knuckle protection took a beating but they're still ok. My final pair are Alpinestars 365 all year glove and these are great, but still breaking them in - hideously expensive though... around £120.In my experience I'd highly recommend getting gloves with some knuckle protection and decent pads on the lower palm of your hand where you're going to break your fall. Decent wrist support is also very useful and this is where the Alpinestars above really excel with a large double fastening velcro system. Quote

I was told to buy Held by a guy whose Alpinestars gloves had disintigrated to nothing when he had an off My winter gloves are still 'Bike show specials' for £15 with the obligatory knuckle protection.
