Considering purchasing Navigon MobileNavigator for iPhone after another member (jackal) pointed it out to me. Has anyone used it yet? It's £37.99 for the UK/IOM/EIR version but goes up to £59.99 after 30th June. Anyone any idea what Tomtom are going to charge for iPhone satnav when they get round to releasing it?

Installed and tested today on the way to work. Worked perfectly :D And a LOT cheaper than Tomtom will be

It has an option for the type of vehicle, including motorbike, and the option to avoid all motorways... perfect for learners. The only downside is that because it's playing the instructions through the MP3 connection of my Scala headset then if I have the radio on it cuts out the MP3, but I can play music and have voice directions on the iPhone so what the hey. All is good now :D

interesting this

anyone got a decent mount for a bike for the iphone?

You can buy a bike mount for an iPhone but I would be concerned about the vibration killing the iPhone. My solution was a tank bag with a clear top pocket and suprisingly if you take your cloves off you can use the touchscreen through the plastic of the tankbag. The screen on iPhone isn't clear enough in daylight to use as satnav so I use the voice directions through the helmet and it's spot on. Don't like the idea of looking at satnav screen whilst riding.

I've been using a demo version, , which of course I am now going to pay for, erm yeah anyway... The software runs perfectly on the iPhone but I did end up adding a 12v accessory socket to the bike to charge the phone. I keep the phone in the clear pocket of a tank bag and the touch screen works through this even in rain, but only with gloves off. The navigation is through clear voice instructions and is very accurate. There's no speed camera alerts but it does warn you if you go over the speed limit. Just using the phones built in GPS it has so far been faster and more accurate than my Tomtom One v3. Navigation is easy with the usual POI's, favourites, home and manual addresses. The one thing lacking is full UK postcodes, it only does the first part, ie s10 2..., then you have to select the right road.

For convenience of being on the phone and not having to carry an additional gps then this wins hands down. Eventually I'll try a tomtom rider but for now Navigon Mobilenavigator is highly recommended.

Pm me if anyone wants advice on getting the demo of this

I've given it a go now in the car a few times and I have to say I do not like it. It reminds me of having a real female navigator as it seems to tell you far too far in advance that you need to turn and then it tells you actually on the turn, just like a women does. 'You need to turn ther..... oh you've gone past it. Why didn't you turn there? I told you six miles away that you needed to turn and then I actually told you when you got to the corner. Yes I am aware you were doing 60mph AND yes I know you have to brake, but that's why I told you 20 minutes ago.'

It also seems slower to update than the TomTom I've been using on my old Nokia N73. AND I couldn't find anywhere I could just put the post code of an address in. Usually I put the postcode in as that's all I have some times but this makes you put city/town, street and then number in. I'm unaware how to put postcodes in so if you've figured it out Mart then let me know.

I'm waiting for the TomTom and then choosing the best one.

Will still try out the tomtom of course, but I'm not having any problems with the Navigon. It's plenty quick enough while I've been using it on the bike, and the directions seemed to be timed about right on mine. The postcode only takes the first 4 or 5 characters which is a bit rubbish but for what it cost me I can live with that :)

To use postcode search just press the Enter an Address button and where you type in the city just start typing a postcode instead. HTH.

this sat nav was great. i have nothing else to compare it to but the directions given were clear, and given at the right times IMO. got me where i wanted to be anyway and what more can you ask for??

when it gave an instruction early, i often forgot what she said a couple of seconds after, but the reminder a bit closer to a turning was much better. even on the way home it took me through some short cuts that i usually take.

kills off battery though. but the end of the day, it's a phone doing all of this!!!

I've not tried Navigon software but will be giving it a go. I've got TomTom 7 running on my Windows Mobile phone and it's OK - only problem is you can't just navigate directly to a postcode, you need the full address :?

Naughty boys and girls sometimes don't pay for their sat nav software.....

Does the iPhone use solid state storage or a hard drive still? If it's solid state I wouldn't worry about vibration killing it off by using a mount, there'd be no moving parts to damage. However I have a sneaking suspicion that it has a type of hard drive...most other phones don't (like mine :D) so I don't need to worry about it!!

As for where to put it I either put it in my tank bag or my pocket (obviously you have to rely on audio only then!).
