brendan002 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 When I get to work use computer screen wipes all the time, 2 years old now and no damage! Quote
Guest Mr Miller Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 This thread reminded me of a free visor cleaning service offered by Costa coffee! On Sunday, on the way home from Mikey's Run, Frankie & I pulled into Wetherby services for a coffee before we went our seperate ways home.Frankie kindly got the drinks in whilst I looked after our gear. After ringing Mrs. Miller to let her know I'd survived this far and that I'm on the final leg, I noticed that I really needed to clean the old visor - it looked like i'd taken out a few squadron's of flying enemies! After coffee's finished and I head off to the little boy's...errrmmm....I mean, the gent's room, return to the table, get all the gear and head out to the bikes. Say goodbye & wave Frankie off, plugs in, helmet on followed by gloves, start up & head towards the exit. Big roundabout, find the right exit, speed up to safely join the A1, visor down and........Whoa boy! How clean?!? The lovely helmet cleaners must have nipped out & polished me visor when I was in the lavvy! I'm surprised Frankie didn't tell me they'd been out?!My plain, black coffee - even with no sugar, was about £2½ but with a service like this - I'll be going back!Just thought you'd like to know! Pete Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Wow that's the first I've heard of a visor cleaning service! I don't think I'd have the cojones in case someone took offence that I was manhandling their lid!The science part of spectacle wipes and LCD screen wipes is that the cleaning part is something called isopropanol (Iso-Propyl Alcohol, or Propan 2-ol). It's a type of alcohol and they use it to clean screens before they leave the factory. I've got some that I use that's 99% pure (the stuff you get in the shops is a lot less than that as it's watered down with distilled water) and works brilliantly. The great thing about it is that it evaporates pretty much as soon as you wipe it on (hence a streak free finish). I don't see why you couldn't use it on a visor. I got mine from ebay, it was under a fiver for a good sized bottle of the stuff - much cheaper than buying the watered down rubbish that never lasts! Here's a nice link to a listing on ebay I found for anyone that cares:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IPA-ISOPROPYL-ALC ... 1|294%3A50 Quote
Guest Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 i think Mr Millers taking the P... i cleaned my visor, and then did his, just didn't tell him.. Quote
