Guest Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Basically, wouldn't start this morning. Fuel pump works ok, fuses all ok, turns over ok. But absolutely no sign of life. So this evening I spent a joyous couple of hours stripping it down to get to the spark plugs to see if there is a spark. Which there isn't, so am assuming it is immobiliser related. I'm pretty sure it is the alarm based immoby and not the Honda HISS. Haven't been able to determine whether these things are reliable or not, or whether people have had issues with them with this humidity. Although I'm sure I remember something like that...All suggestions appreciated! And a big thank you to Walney Frankie who has already pm'd me after seeing my plight in General! Quote
techno Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I suggest you take it to a garage When my zx6 wouldn't start tried all sorts wasted 7 weeks it was a faulty connector block 70quid all sorted! Wasted all that time! Good job it was winter. Quote
Pete Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 A garage?? *Dan passes out* PMSL at that!! That guy WalneyFrankie is a smart fella. He's fully of useful biking information, I don't know where he stores all of it.Taken from another site which was taken from a Fireblade manual on your problem, Dan:. faulty spark plug. fouled spark plug. faulty ECM. broken or shorted spark plug wire/coil wire. faulty ignition pulse generator. faulty engine stop switch. loose or disconnected ignition system wires. faulty ignition coil ( unlikely that two or three of them went out in one shot, in my opinion). throttle valve open ( whatever that means?)Have you checked the connections to the ECU? Also check all the ground points on the frame for corrosion. Maybe it's time to start jabbing the multimeter at stuff...EDIT: On ANOTHER Fireblade site I found someone with the same problem, and this is his last post (before he'd fixed it. Not before he died of course):"I have now checked the pulse generator as per the Haynes manual-it appears to be up the swanny" Quote
Guest Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 WF has an mechanics mind, but the body of a jockey, theres wasn't much call for lightweight engineers when i left school, so took another path but my passion is fixing things.. maybe now i can put back together that radio my mum keeps telling me i took apart at 8..... Haha! Sounds a bit like my uncle - came home pished as a fart once, woke up the next day to my auntie shouting at him to "put the effing kitchen taps back on you idiot!!!". He'd only decided to do a bit of unnecessary DIY in his drunken stuper. Couldn't remember how to put them back on so had to call a plumber!Let us know if you get it all worked out Dan. I'd feel defeated if I had to take it to matey boy at the garage, but I think an electrical problem might force me to do it. Jab that multimeter at it first though. Quote
rennie Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 my kill switch stuck once! looked like it was on run but wasn't! worth a try!also side stand switch, although i don't think it would turn over if it was that. Quote
Rik398 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I am probably going to sound like the token idiot but the battery is fine? must be if it turns over. also the wires connected to spark plug aren't full of any condensation or anything weird like that? Also with my ped ages ago it made a sound like the ignition was working but it still turned out that it was a broken starter motor. Don't know if its the same with bigger bikes as (touch wood) haven't had to do any repairs yet. hope it helps. probably wont but i tried Quote
kja.busa Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I'd start with the kill switch, then try a spare plug in a plug lead, earthed to the head to see if theres a spark. Most alarm immobilisers work best when removed from the bike and placed in the nearest dustbin. Quote
Guest Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Thanks for input peeps!Kill switch is fine. If only it were that simple!!Sidestand switch is also fine.Have checked an existing plug, no spark. I currently don't have a spare. But KJA? Yes I think the bin is the best place for it Quote
Guest Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Hmmmm...Should I have continuity to earth from both + and - terminals of the battery...? Managed to get a fault code out of the bike. Pointing to the cam pulse generator. The pulse thingy is fine, Haynes says if that is the case, I got a short in the wiring loom ... Quote
Guest Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 oh bugger dude... hope you get it sorted soon and at minimal expense Quote
rennie Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 This is starting to sound expensive!, good luck! Quote
kja.busa Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Thanks for input peeps!Kill switch is fine. If only it were that simple!!Sidestand switch is also fine.Have checked an existing plug, no spark. I currently don't have a spare. But KJA? Yes I think the bin is the best place for it Seriously, joking aside if you believe it to be the alram/immobiliser the bin is the best place for it, they are more trouble than they are worth, I nearly got stranded near Bordeaux once due to a Spyball alarm/immobiliser, but rest assured once I got home, it was "retired" to a safe place! Pete Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Garage is collecting it later.... Dan *dramatic pause* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!Oh well, hats off for not wasting half your life tracking down a thread of wire touching the frame or something! It'll be interesting to know what was causing it. Don't worry, I still respect you... Quote
Guest Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I will do most things my self. However there comes a time when I weigh up my time, versus being without the bike. I want my bike fixed now!!!!Mechanic man will be quicker..... hopefully Quote
Pete Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I hope no 'newbies' sign up to the site asking for help with a Fireblade that has the same problems as yours (fingers crossed the mechanic doesn't need to ask for help ) Quote
Gem Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Oh crap! That sucks Dan I'm no help but I hope you get it back from the garage soon!! Quote
Guest Mr Miller Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 My initial thought, right back at the beginning of this thread was, 'If Dan's asking for help, we're all f**ked!' Quote
