Sorry this isn't intended to be a message bashing the people who work on the BBC's MotoGP programme like Perry/Cox/Parrish/etc... because I know if it was down to them the broadcast put out would be very different, but I need to get it off my chest that the BBC is destroying MotoGP in the UK.

I know this has been a back and forth arguement time and time again and the general concensus is that the BBC is taking MotoGP to a wider audience, but my point is that quite frankly they couldn't give two s***'s about it.

Eurosport don't have a license to broadcast the MotoGP race live so clearly the BBC bumped the MotoGP schedule tonight and recorded it. This coupled with the fact that the BBC's programme was a 1 hr show when Eurosport provided and 1hr and 30 mins, I just find it crazy.

When Wimbledon runs over the BBC bump everything the news, Eastenders, whatever it takes and I'm sure the same would be done for Formula 1, but MotoGP is different. Terrific.

This I still don't have a majorly big problem with, I knew this would be the case and they may claim that viewing figures for Wimbledon would justify the decision. However, my issue with the BBC is that if you are going to treat the coverage like this and basically treat it like Top Gear which also gets bumped everytime a sporting event is on, then don't bid for the exclusive rights and p*** everyone off.

Not only do we get short none existant or red button coverage (125cc/250cc) we also can't view it on an alternative channel because you've been greedy.

Maybe the people at the Beeb should remember who helps fund them  ... rant over... sorry

And it was live uninterupted on eurosport as well today!

While ever eurosprt have coverage I will not watch the bbc!

I wait for eurosports coverage!

Turned it over bang on 10, expecting there to be build up etc. No. They literally were pulling away as the programming started! Then 2 second interviews at the end, job done. It p*sses me off no end!!!!!! I cant believe we HAVE to pay £110

(ish) a year for this crap!

Yeah I tuned in at 10pm and as you say they literally started... quite a good race though.

Problem is the viewing figures for Moto GP are a very small fraction of other sporting events you've mentioned and so it not suprising the coverage is the way it is.

Am in total agreement. Last night was appalling.

Firstly...

Don't know if they will listen or not, but worth a try... Perhaps if we all do it they might do.

Secondly, I got on the red button last night as it was shown on there as well. Showed the warm up lap, then just as they were about to start, it cuts to a BBC Graphic and pauses. Then cuts in at the same time as BBC2 did.... I would not mind but all the red button was showing was the Tennis highlights... for about the 4th time that day.

I have the same problems with Touring Car Championship. It is far better than the F1 races due to the tight packs of cars and contact etc rather than races won in the pits yet ITV4 show it rather than a more mainstream channel. It's not been bad recently but I've seen the races shrunk to a half hour program before.

Very true mate... On all aspects.

Just found this http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sporteditors/2009/01/it_always_feels_like_a.html and had a read... very poor at best, I think someone should get a job at the government dodging questions in this manner.

The inability to record via the red button is a Sky box issue rather than a specifically BBC one

Well ok what about using BBC three or BBC four if you don't want to put it on the mainstream.

Under the terms of the licence we can't turn BBC Three or Four into a sports channel although we can use them occasionally and they are unavailable during the day as the bandwidth is used by CBeebies and CBBC.

and incase you were wondering about viewing figures.

To give the situation some context our coverage attracts average audiences of 1.1 million with an approval rating that has been the highest for any terrestrial programme in a given week.

so basically I think what they are saying here is..... Thanks for all your feedback but

I've watched Motogp/GP500 for donkey's years and there was quite a few years when it was just shown on Eurosport only.

God forbid we ever have to go back to them days. The amount of times adverts completely spoiled the race was unbelievable. Yes I know they replay it most of the time, but not all the time.

I would rather the ads than the beeb have sole rights and whats with the beebs commentators utter shit!

:stupid:

Although i dont mind watching the build up bits on BBC...... (Nothing to do with Suzy)Honest)

But prefer the more in-depth knowledge from the comentators on Euro-sport.

Do miss Randy Mamola tho.

Yep its bollocks! I'm getting sick of the 'friendly banter' in the commentary box as well. Trouble is on Dutch TV theres just the one commentator and by god he has to be the worst! But at least they don't bump it and you get a good build up

Last night was a bit pathetic really. I understand that the time difference means that showing Laguna live means bumping other programming. BBC2 Sunday night slot is a popular one so I'm surprised anything got bumped for a minority interest sport like motoGP. However, I do think they'd have been better off just making a decent length 'red button' programme instead. A bit of build up, pit lane walk, the usual sort of coverage. I guess it only really goes wrong with Laguna because of the timings.

What would be absolutely awful though is if BBC lost coverage to Eurosport. Think of the thousands of people who don't have or want Sky. We've already lost the ability to watch WSB on television and only get BSB via a week-late highlights show.

Much as I love motorcycle sport, nothing would ever possess me to contribute to Rupert Murdoch's retirement fund.

We need to support BBC coverage and suggest improvements rather than slate it and risk losing it.

I missed the start of the race because I was expecting a build up so quickly went to do my lunch for the next day, pffft!

Ok not a huuuuuge deal because I only missed 1 minute but I wanted to join in in the ranting about the BBC

QB, don't worry I'm not trying to stir up a 'BBC should lose the coverage' debate, far from it, I think the BBC should have MotoGP on TV because it does help more people watch the sport and it is good for people who don't have Eurosport.

The only thing I have a problem with is the BBC getting exclusive rights, you can believe all the bulls*** they print but you know when they paid all that money they wanted exclusive rights, which has pissed on the fire a bit.

If the BBC done a proper job with the coverage I would have no issue, but if you sign a contract and then put out a show like last night, that's not on.... would it happen in formula 1? would we suddenly cut to the parade lap at Indy? No :(

It's like Real Madrid buying Ronaldo and then saying "sit on the bench mate we're gonna play Kaka for the first 80 minutes, you can come on for the last 10." The fans feel cheated.

Utilise our TV money wisely and put it on BBC 3 and then put a proper warm up/post race show on like you do for formula 1.

BTW we love ya Queen B :D

i see a few mentions of F1 coverage, just thought i'd add if the race runs longer than expected they cut all the post race interviews and wrap up the program. but they always have 1 hour pre race build up.

I always wait for the replays on eurosport. there arent any brakes anymore either

THE main problem with the BBC coverage IMO is Charlie Cox. End of. There is no way on earth any kind of bikesport is going to get priority over tennis/Golf or any other shite. Unless some bike minded person gets the top BBC job....

Dont mind Parrish as he has raced bikes.... When he did the TT coverage with Jamie Whitham he was ok. In fact i enjoyed the coverage from ITV4 on that, ok it wont live but hey.....

The BBC are very limited as to what they can and cant say as in rmours in the paddock whereas on Eurosport they chat aboput allsortsd of ifs and could be's. the BBC have to wait till things are ''Official''.

Qb went on about not lining murdocks pockets but I object to the stealth tax that is the tv license especially as it goes to line that f**kwit Graham Nortons pockets, he's had yet another flop and there still gonna re-new his £6 million contract then try to find something for him to do...you couldnt make it up

But naz not all eurosprts commentators work, carnt do with that Carlton Kirby and his " monstering" and "there in clover" w**ker!

BBC are way behind the times when it comes to sports coverage.

Even Match of the Day is crap.

Thankfully I have no interest in F1 any longer either.

But Eurosports coverage is just so much better.

Knowledgable commentators (more often than not) with added humour.

Plus they are completely enthusiastic about the sport, riders and bikes.

Ok we sadly don't get the dashing good looks of Suzi Perry, but there is the internet for that sorta thing.

Wouldn't bother me if the BBC lost it, and whatever we pay for in life we are lining someone's pockets.
