Hello,

I was washing my bike earlier and accidently got a bit of water in the exhaust. Firstly I was wondering if this is anything to worry about? The other thing I noticed was when I looked at my engine oil inspection window (I have the Suzuki Bandit 650) there appeared to be a white residue sitting on the top of the oil. I was wondering if the 2 are connected and if this cuold potentially cause damage to the engine if ridden.

The bike is only 6 months old and in good condition.

Advice would be welcome,

Cheers

white residue will be moisture, not a major as all engines sweat.. the water in the exhaust will evaporate when you ride it, just dont aim the hose down there.. the headers are at height, the water will pool in the lowest part..

that makes sense. I was worried that the water had somehow found its way into the engine.

thanks for the advice!

Also might be worth noting that depending on how much water you got in the bike may run 'lumpy' for a few miles. Again, don't worry about it.

Exhausts have a small drain hole. This allows moisture from cold start up, that condenses in the muffler, to drain away. Best not to get detergent when washing up the exhaust as this will speed up internal corrosion.

The 650 bandit is water cooled. The white scum ontop of the oil may be an indication of a failing cylinder head gasket. The coolant mixing with the engine oil to form an emulsion or scum on the surface. Remove the oil filler cap and see if there's any scum there. At 6months old it will be under warranty. Pop down to your dealer and get it checked out. 8-)
