MtotheJ Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I need to invest in some extra luggage as im planning on riding down to and around Cornwall in a few weeks. I already have a Kriega R25 Rucksack but i think ill need something extra. I was initially looking at a tank bag but after asking on here for my bike (ZX6r) it doesnt seem that sensible. So maybe a tailpack? I really fancy the Kriega US 10, anyone got one or heard anything bad about them or exceptionally good? Any other recommendations would be good too Quote
Guest Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I cannot fault my Kriega US10 in terms of quality and being waterproof. My only gripe is I could do with something bigger. Internal storage is about 27cm Wide x 20cm Deep x 14cm High.I have a Buffalo tank bag, which is also great but scratched my tank when a stone kicked up and stuck to the magnets. I got to my destination, removed the tank bag and was greeted by 2 2" scratches in my paintwork. I now put a piece of non-slip rubber between it and the tank. Finally, I also have a Knox Sixpack rucksack which is great. Lots of space, waterproof, and comes with a case that will take a 15" laptop comfortably. My only gripe with the Knox rucksack is it's heavy when full. Quote
Guest Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I have a Kriega US-20 and a US-10 that kinda bolts ontop. They are great, especially as they are waterproof and no need to mess around with the raincover. The great thing about the Kriega stuff is its expandability, I think you can get bolt 2x US-10 to a US-20 and heh presto you have 40 litres. MtotheJ Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Thanks for the info Thats what i love about the rucksack, pissing down rain and it doesnt let a drop in, was just wondering if the tailpacks were the same.So effectively i could get a US 10 and then if thats not big enough, get a US 20 then just attach the ten to it? Colin the Bear Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 A rucksack raises your centre of gravity. It also puts strain on the rider and is a movable weight. Have a look at throw over panniers to compliment your tail pack and a tank bag to balance the load on the bike. Much more stable and less tiring than a rucksack. Quote
MtotheJ Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 What are you planning to put in it? Well i was just going to put clothes in my rucksack, tshirts, boxers, socks etc. Then in the tailpack, a pair of shoes, phone charges, ipod charger, chain and lock, bike cover, chain lube, basically anything that isnt soft and reasonably light. duane69 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I've just got a tailpack and got rid of the rucksack and its much better as i don't get back strain anymorebut i can also rest the rucksack on the tailpack if i sit back a little then no back straineither way works for me Quote
Alex Gold Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I recommend the Buffalo tailpack for a relatively cheap, high quality and quite large tailpack.https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/view_de ... 20Tailpackand since I always seem to post these two links together...if you want a whole luggage set:http://www.mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=901543 Quote
Guest Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 ...in the tailpack, a pair of shoes, phone charges, ipod charger, chain and lock, bike cover, chain lube...You would need the 20 for that lot. Almax provide the 10 just for the chain, and it takes my 1.5m chain and lock comfortably, but with not enough spare room for things like shoes and bike cover etc. To give you some idea, the 10 would just about take a shoe box.Good luck with whatever you choose. Colin the Bear Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Travel light. Spare knickers and a bar of soap. (Soap is for washing knickers.)OrToothbrush and credit card.Biker wisdom says you can't get everything you want into panniers but you can get everything you need Quote
monotone Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I've used a Kriega US10 (got it free with my Almax chain) on a 20 minute commute every day for over a year and it's never let any water in. I have room for my 2.6L lunchbox in the main compartment and phone, wallet and visor cleaner in the top pocket. The straps are easy to adjust and the clips are reliable. Quote
Guest Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Finally, I also have a Knox Sixpack rucksack which is great. Lots of space, waterproof, and comes with a case that will take a 15" laptop comfortably. My only gripe with the Knox rucksack is it's heavy when full.No.... Really.... who'd have thought it... Quote

I was wondering where you got the non-slip rubber or atleast what type it was (other than non-slip) as both myself and a colleague use tank bags and both have concerns about the tank being damaged.any info would be appreciatedcheers Quote
Guest Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 you can get it from most high street stores like the old Woolies, asda etc, its the stuff to stop rugs creeping, so wilkinsons, argos etc, etc.. a small towel or synthetic shammy work just as well, as they reduce the abrasive nature of the underside of luggage.. tank bags scratch, as they pick up the grit found at the roadside, as some of it contains iron.. especially when you put them down..... MtotheJ Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 You can also get the bike specific stuff, 'Wonderweb' i think its called. M&P stock it i think. Quote
Sheep_onna_Bandit Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 You can also get the bike specific stuff, 'Wonderweb' i think its called. M&P stock it i think. It is indeed, but at £8 a pop plus P&P, I'd go for the non slip stuff for mats or car dashboards. Mucho Lesso Doshio Quote
