Phil_D Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I've heard that its good to adjust the chain when theres someone of the riders weight on the bike. I've recently adjusted my chain to 2.5cm of play so when im on the bike would this make the chain too tight or too loose? Quote
Pete Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 My Haynes manual says to check it when the bike is on the centre stand and there's no one sat on the bike. I guess some bikes are different, you'll just have to read the manual for yours. Quote
Phil_D Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Yeah it doesnt mention it in the manual, i think as my wear indicator is almost at the red i was hoping that i had overtightened it and it would last longer! ah well how much is the average cost for a new chain/sprockets? Quote
Colin the Bear Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 The chain tightens as the suspension is compressed. The recommended is half an inch 12/13mm up and down ,at a point half way between the sprockets with the bike on the stand. I suspect an inch when compressed is too much.Get a better manual. Is your bike listed here?http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp Quote
