Honda CM200t won't tickover

I've just bought one of these . its a 1981 model with 6v electrics. it starts ok on choke but won't tickover when warm. i've put new plugs in coz the old ones were black and sooty and new petrol. took the airfilter out to spray some carb cleaner in and it looks new but smelt of petrol. tried adjusting tickover screw and it either screams it head off or cuts out. it also cuts out when pulling up to junctions etc. i'm thinking its carb related. any other ideas before i start pulling carb to bits?

how quickly are you turning the adjuster, if you wind it in a way and get the thing running, then wind back slowly giving the engine a chance to take on the adjustment, you'll get there,

otherwise you may have a blocked needle jet..

Sounds like you have a leak in your intake manifold...

Try spraying some carb cleaner/wd40 at the intake with the engine running and see if the revs change which would suggest a leak.

(you will probably hear a hissing noise in the area if there is a leak.)
