Hey Guys,


Basically the guy who used to own my bike didn't look after it too well, and as a result there are a few things I wanted to sort out, but don't know about, so thought I'd whack it up here. Firstly, The guy had a load of keys on his key fob, and as a result, both the area around the igniton and fuel cap are scratched from other keys- is there any way of making the aluminium ( i think it is) shiny again, and to remove the scratches around the areas? - same with the minor scratching above the S logo on the tank - do I need to get a paint kit on top of a 'scratch filler'? Lastly, anyone know what the black roller is? it's just above the sidestand and next to the chain, didn't want to get rid of the crap round it till I knew what it did/if I need to lube it up or not ? -

you can polish the yoke (fork head) but its a lot of work to be honest, the rubber roller will be a guide for the chain so it will be chain muck on it..


i would just keep it clean and tidy.

The scratches on the tank, without a full respray will have to stay, blame the numpty and his bunch of keys. The Yoke can be repolished, the scratches are in the lacquer applied after manufacture. The rubber is as Frank says a chain guide, just give it an occasional wipe and it will be fine. Anyone who puts their ignition key on a bunch of keys then allows them to swing around whilst riding, scratching stuff etc, should be taken to one side and slapped until they see logic. The ignition switch is mean't to have assorted crap hanging from it, apart from the obvious damage it also weakens the switch and prematurely wears the lock mechanism.

also its easier to move one key with a gloved hand than a bunch..

funny you should say that..... the tiny bit of metal that covers the igniton, that pulls back when you put the key in is bent, and the damn thing stays open !

apply WD-40 on it every time you wash it as otherwise it will rust and break the key, on mine my key was bending due to the water seizing up the lock, however WD-40 solved my issue :D

Better than WD40 for that application would be a squirt of silicone grease down the key hole.


Autosol and a cheap electric tooth brush will bring the shine back to metal.


Tcut on a damp cloth for paintwork. 8-)
