Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 just started an oil change and have found the sump plug has stripped the casing what is the best course of action can any one help please Quote
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Oh dear If you are handy enough, you can re-tap it yourself. Failing that, have a word with a garage. If the sump is stripped as you say, and needs retapping then a sump plug with a lardger diameter will be required. I'm not entirely sure on the effectiveness of inserts like a helecoil in a sump... But hold your horses and Walney Frankie will be along soon!!! Quote
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 whats the bike?google Heli-coil.. ideal for sump plug fixes, just awkward because of the location.. and PTFE tape will act as a makeshift repair, but you will need to keep an eye on it.. or a replacement sump plate, depends on the bike..had the same problem with a GS650 Katana..Dan, you called, LOL Quote
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 "> Heli-Coil How to Video..watching the vid, you would be best removing the sump plate, to minimise swarth/fillings in the engine.. so a cheap second hand sump plate may be the way to go, new gasket obviously.. Quote

Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 the bike is a 2000 bandit 600 will i need to remove the sump plate yes, otherwise you need to lie the bike down , and will porbably get fillings/swarth from drilling the hole out and tapping it.. is it the mk2, or the 1997-2000 bandit 600, plenty of spares out there on ebay.. this would be the easiest option, drop the oil, and then the sump, refit new with gasket and refill, and check.. Haynes manual would be a must.. Quote

Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 where is the best place to get a sump plate from, any suggestionsMotorcycle breakers, or ebay.. find someone breaking your model and ask if they have one, they dont always list all parts.. they may want yours in return, they will fix it and sell it on.. i'd be tempted to get a new plate, and a quote from a garage, as to replacing it.. then make the decision as to whether you do it, or you hand over the cash..
