JoshTimmins Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 while at low speed the temp gauge can sit just below red, is this norm? (high speed = more air gettin to the engine coolin it down?)coolant has been topped up this morning(as i noticed was doin this last night and it was low) but will check before i set off home whether it has gone down, with a possible leak?Anybody ave any ideas ? Sorry info is vague, at the GFs bike is a gpz500s '95 (restricted) Thanks Joshx Quote
RiffmasterII Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 My ninja runs at 106 degrees in traffic!! Ive been told its quite normal Quote
TC Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 My CBR sits at over 100 degrees in traffic then cools down was soon as i strat moving Quote
Bill_on_a_bike Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Has it got a fan fitted? that should come on above a certain temp if it does. Quote
Anthony Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 if it dont have a fan, use the GF's hairdryer Quote
Pete Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Yeah mine gets hot in traffic too - more reason to filter! I first noticed last summer when it started over revving when at a stand still !! I tend to filter now or flick the kill switch if I'll be still for ever such a long time. Quote
JoshTimmins Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 doesnt ever seem to go to red.. although ive noticed the heat is from the radiator and not the engine itself?water pump? Fan, if its fitted?(wtill tryin to find online manual)head gasket? im just throwing ideas out there.. air lock somewhere?collant level is still tehe same Joshx Quote
Guest Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Well, its the radiator that disperses the heat innit ? So most of the head should be in that.. no ? Quote
JoshTimmins Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 is it actually going in to the red ? not yet but its noticably changed (im pretty sure) over the last few days...either that or the heatwave has made it hotteR?you can smell the heat if that maeks sense lol Joshx Quote
Stu Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 keep an eye on it if it goes in to the red then stop does the fan cut in ? if it has been warmer when you noticed it then thats probably why mine can get up to 111°c before the fan comes on Quote

MtotheJ Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I think its normal Josh. My Kwak runs at about 90-100 when slow moving or in traffic and slightly higher on a hot day. Quote
JoshTimmins Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 thanks guys just one quick thing, fan does work But after turnin off when the bike is hot, there are bubbles comin up through the coolant (where you pour it in) Anything to worry about?TaJoshx Quote
Guest Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 if there's bubbles its probably not be bled properly.. check out coolant bleeding in a manual.. Quote
Stu Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 or the coolant is boiling you are putting a coolant mix in arent you and not just water ?water will boil where as coolant raises the boiling point and aids cooling too Quote

Guest Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 see page 48/49..the GPZ has a header tank (ER-5 Doesn't) you need to take the lid off the header tank and off the radiator. shown on pages above, the air will the escape and the collant will level off, top up as required, re-fit both lids and test.. sounds like you have topped up the bottle but have an airlock on the other side..http://www.scribd.com/doc/4632187/Kawas ... nce-Manual Quote
JoshTimmins Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Done, thankyou will see how it goes on the next run Thankles Joshx Quote

Colin the Bear Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Could be time for a drain , flush and replace the coolant. I can't remember what the shelf life is but it needs changing from time to time to give peak efficiency. Quote
