Voodoo Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Front wheel bearing is easy if you have the right tools, without the right tools you can make do with a screw driver and hammer.Nine times out of ten, its really easy to remove the old bearings but I've had some in the past that have been a dog. Thing is, if you never try fitting them you'll never know how easy it can be and it'll cost you a fair bit for somebody else to do it. Things that have gone wrong in the past though include the bearing centre falling out along with the bearings and leaving the outer shell still in the wheel, this was a complete dog!Bearing that are loose when fitted into place, this can be solved easily by dot punching the wheel. And one last tip, use the old bearings over the new one to hammer into place and don't hit it in the middle! Guest Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 A few years ago I had the same - worn wheel bearings.I replaced the front quite easily - as voodoo says a hammer will do the trick.I played a little trick on the mot inspector - I replaced the front and left the rear - and he passed both wheels saying they were much better!I'm no expert but I assume if you replace one set of wheel bearings you should replace the other to get similar wear - but if the rear was fine then why buy more bearings than you need!Matt Quote
Mightycaz Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Where abouts do you live? google motorcylce repairs in your area and give one of the non big businesses a call. I did that not so long ago when i needed my fronbk fork seals done, Bill Smiths quoted £150 and a local guy did them, changed the oil and gave it a quick once over for £55! Quote
Guest Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 i'm led to believe that putting new bearings in the freezer makes life easier, as they shrink slightly.. also whilst you have the wheel off you can change the oil in your front forks.. you'll need a haynes book of lies though..and you bike supported properly.. otherwise book it into one of the less branded garages, ask around your local bike stops for recommendations.. and those to avoid... Guest Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 try wemoto.com i've used them in the past, and will again, fast to your door, and reasonably priced,..£3.91 each (x2) for front wheel bearings.. rs125 (extrema 02-05) as a guide£10.52 fork seals...http://www.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=5835421oils http://www.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=5835421you need to know the Weight of the Oil,....5w is the thinnest and goes up from there, so 10 is thicker than 5, etc... remember that the oil you are replacing will have felt heavier than fresh as its contaminated.. for instance my bike is 5W standard, but i run with 20w, so its less bouncy.. have a chat with Fozzie3000, he may have some more info on this..
