Problem with revs.

Recommended Posts

Recently I had a problem with my bike where when started if you revved it, it would cut out. We’ve sorted that problem now by cleaning out the carburettor which was a little dirty. Now my bike won’t rev over 10. When it is revved over 10 it’s like it cuts out. If you quickly change up a gear the revs go down and the bike goes back to normal.

Any help would be appreciated as i find it hard to live without a bike :)

It a Yamaha TZR 50.

Thanks.

Check and clean your air filter, with the symptoms you describe I would think that you have a dirty and clogged air filter. If this doesnt solve it you may have a small crack or hole in inlet tract (bit of rubber between the carb and engine. To test the inlet tract get the bike nice and warm, set the revs to about 3-6k and then spray WD40 around the inlet tract, if there is a hole or crack the revs will change (either up or down).

I would check the air filter first though.

So....... 50cc..........red line is 10K ...............you've been reving it over 12K..............

and now it's acting up :?

Just a thought , if the red line is at 10K and it splutters when you try to take it over, you may be hitting the rev limiter 8-)
