  1. Great thanks everyone, will give another try tomorrow aaaa
  2. Thanks Dan, Battery is fairly new, bought at the end of last summer. Was probably not fully charged as after trying to turn it over for a while I could tell it was losing strengh. This was after maybe 5 mins of trying though. Shall I just charge it up and just keep trying to start it for a good while, until I try anything else? Edit: Cheers also SF, your reply didn't appear till after my reply
  3. Hi everyone, I tried to start my bike the other day to make sure everything is O.K as the really cold snap seems to be at an end so want to get back out riding soon. First time in about 4 or 5 weeks I've tried it and it won't start. Previosly when its been left a few weeks, all has been well and its started after a few tries. I kept trying to turn the engine over with the choke on, but after a few minutes I could tell the batery was starting to lose charge so I stopped. The bike is a 1995 GSXR 750 WS, I am new to biking so have never done anything mechanical with it, but I do have a basic understanding of how an engine works and which bits do what. Has anyone got any suggestion of things I can try before getting the tools out, or the best thing I should try first when I do start fiddling. I'm thinking check spark plugs for a spark and check the fuels getting down there, but they are not easy to get to so before I start messing with something I'm not qualified to touch I though I would ask for advise. Any advice will be appreciated, Many thanks aaaa

    What NOT to do .....

My what not to do was nearly dangerous rather than expensive. I had just picked up my first bike from about 20 miles away from where I live. It had very little fuel but I thought if it stops I can put it into reserve and have enough to get home. anyway, about half way home I was just cruising in traffic and thought to myself I would attemp to reach down and put it on reserve as I was moving as this may save having to stop. I quickly found what I thought I was looking for (while keeping full attention to the road) and carried on, on my way. A short while later I closed the throttle, the engine died, locked up the back, sending me into a very big frightening skid which with my inexperience could of turned out very badly. The rear eventually gripped and the bike bump started itself. This happened once more before I thought stuff this and pulled over. After a few minutes of investigation I realised that from not being used to turning the fuel tap and also wearing really thick gloves which were also very new and stiff, what I had actually done is adjusted the engine idle to a point where without any rider input on the throttle the bike would stall straight away. aaaa
  5. OK thanks
  6. Thanks for the advise people
  7. Hello, By bike is in the garage for the cold months. Stopped riding at the end November and probably won't ride it again till at least March I would think- I am not as hardcore as some of you people it appears. I do go out and start my bike from time to time but someone has advised me to remove the battery and bring it inside else it will freeze and become useless. I was somewhat dubious, think of all the cars and bikes that sit outside in the elements all winter, but then again I don't want to ruin the battery if there is any truth to it. This is the first winter I've owned a bike so not had to consider this before. What does everyone else think
