Guest Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 hi, went to bmf tail ender last weekend and when i pulled up, i could hear a ticking noise. I found a bolt loose on the exhaust manifold, so tightened it up and checked all 8 bolts. the ticking noise is a bit quieter but still there and is deffo exhaust gases leaking from the manifold. Any ideas on why the exhaust may still be leaking? is there a gasket that might have disappeared. Please help Quote
Chrissb6 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hi, sound like the gasget is shot. The problem is, if the exhaust gasget leaks due to a bolt or other coming loose. Escaping hot gases will jet micro groves into the gasget making it useless. Note: "a exhaust gasget can only be compressed and used once". Problem you will now have is that, to remove this leaking gasget you will have to disconnect the other pipes to gain access, so more than one gasget will be required. Depending on how the exhaust is built, in may come off in 2 pieces so only 2 replacement gasgets will be required. Its not a big job or expensive. Note: on completion make sure all the bolts or nuts are torqued up to the required specification for to avoid a repeat of the problem.Best of luck Quote
Colin the Bear Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 For gasget read gasket Don't forget to copperslip. Quote
Guest Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 coppaslip, copper-ease, copper grease, used in high heat areas, makes removing them bolts easier next time, also used on the back of brake pads to stop "Squeal"..comes in small tubes as well as garage tins.. Quote
