Guest Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Hi,I recently bought a ZZR600 which turned out to have been owned by a right plonker who didn't have a clue! Hey ho.On picking up the bike it was fine, started, ran, rode home. No problems other than it seemed to be idling a little rough.Anyway, just done all the usual maintenance; oil/filter replacement, clean and reoil air filter, new brakes blar blar blar. Well, now the poor thing doesn't start - the engine turns over fine. Note the following;1. Kill switch in right position.2. Has fuel and fuel tap in ON position.3. Not touched the sparks.4. Different choke amount tried5. Sufficient battery chargeImportantly, after I did the maintenance it DID start then stalled now won't start again. Seems fuel related to me but I have checked all I can think of and am still standing next to the bike scratching my head!HELP PLEASE! Thanks in advanceDar Quote
Guest Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 vacuum pipe on your fuel tank. Ht leads wrong way round. Coil connectors not on properly or rusty. Suppressor caps on tight ? Other end of the Battery negative lead where it attaches to the engine ? Quote
Guest Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 side stand switch? in gear with stand down..? Quote
Colin the Bear Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Can't see it being the side stand switch as the engine is turning over. You'll have to go back to basics. Check for spark and fuel and take it from there. Quote
Guest Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Thanks peeps.Well, the short version, had everything(ish) out today cleaned contacts, pipes etc. Now heres the interesting bit. Before reconnecting the tank we just extended the fuel feed pipe so we could see the fuel pump working, great, it did, and yes, it fired up. Idling is out but hey ho.Put the bike back together and retried, no throttle response!!!!! Slow and erratic tick-over, not firing on all cylinders - seemed absolutely fine with the tank off, revved away happily. Now scratching our heads again. So, it now starts, great but am left with this new problem.Thoughts appreciated.CheersDar Quote

rosszx9r Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 i'd check to make sure the fuel tap works and that any inline fuel filter is clean.then look at cable/pipe routing. something is clearly being dislodged or trapped when you put the tank back on. it may not be the tank thats trapping something, it could be pushing part of the airbox down onto something. Guest Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Well all, I stripped the whole thing down again and didn't find anything.Put it all back together and guess what, ruddy things running now! Well, sort of! Have a new problem now but will start a new thread for that! Thanks for all your suggestions, certainly gave me lots of things to check out which I probably wouldn't have otherwise.CheersDar Quote
