Motorbike backfiring?

Hiya everyone,

I took my bike along to my CBT and rode it for the first time on the roads but there is a major problem with it, its a Gilera 125cc and was only managing a top speed of 35mph.

The instructor thought it was an inhibitor but after we had gos on it he realised it wasnt, the engine sounds really good untill you hit 30 where it starts making bubling noises and even starts backfiring and makes the bike wobble, I almost failed my CBT as whne I was trying to go faster it did a huge backfire and suddenly went a lot faster and almost threw me into the other side of the road! This problem almoist put me off riding as it was so scary on the way home, ppl were overtaking me on big cars and one time I was doing 22 (fastest it would go) then as a woman was overtaking me it suddenly went really fast out of no where and almost gt me killed!

ANy advice greatly appretiated as I dont want to get rid of it, it had an MOT 6 months ago (passed), had its spark plug changed last week as it was blackl and sooty, and had a scorpion exhaust fitted by the previous owner!

sounds like you need to get to a garage and have it looked at before you ride it any more. If fueling is that far out you could cause serious damage and the instructor should have told you this!!

where abouts are you??

put your location in your details.. someone may be able to help in future if they are near you..

which side of Oxford? I've used Premier bikes in Didcot, in the past, you may want to think about getting someone to look over it..
