Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Hi guys, first off, thanks for the help you've given me in the past, and hopefully for helping me now!Well, a few weeks ago i noticed a small hole in my exhaust, not sure if its caused by rust or whatever, but parts of my exhaust are pretty rusty... But today i was just sorting out my back brakes (they seized up, drum brakes in winter, whatcha gonna do ) and decided to sort out the thing on my exhaust that rattles.I managed to pull out the pin that holds this thing down on my exhaust, and now theres a 3mm round hole in it too.So thats two holes I can't afford the £60 for a new exhaust right now, what can i do? I've heard of exhaust tape, would that do the job? Also, how bad is this really? Is it gonna destroy performance and fuel economy? EDIT:When i buy a new exhaust, does it have to be the same part? Or can i get a different one? Something that doesnt look like a cone... Quote
asharin Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Following Colin The Bear's advice (to someone else) a while back, http://www.motorshop1.co.uk/quiksteel.aspApparently it's good stuff, but I'd wait for more expert opinions than mine really! Quote
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 3mm hole eh can you put some pictures up,depending where the hole is it might be a drain hole Quote
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Liquid steel will do it Something similar is this stuff: http://www.patternbikeparts.com/product ... ctID=16908I have used it to repair a bath that contained molten lead. So it'd work on ya exhaust!! Quote
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 if its in the silencer it isn't a high temp area so quicksteel or a chemical metal will suffice, and keep with the original silencer style otherwise the bike will look odd, and effect the resale, Quote
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I'll put take and put up some pictures tomorrow (when its light) and see what you all think :/ One is in the silencer, one is in the downpipe.I've heard its only illegal to ride with a hole if its actually dangerous, which it isn't. So maybe i'll just live with it for a month until i can replace the whole thing.http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n305/CobbZ_2006/photo.jpgHow long can i expect this liquid steel stuff to last? cyberwolf Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 that looks like a drain hole or bolt hole, its not a hole caused by rust Quote
Guest Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 your missing the heatshield which bolts to that location, have a look closely here. just thread a bolt into the hole... put some exhaust paste on the bolt to make it seal, (FireGum-Halfords) Quote
