Guest Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 HiSo yes, I have a '98 GPShed - in my defense I'm 22 so insurance for anything better is ridiculous...Recently It's developed a few problems... Initially fuel started seeping out the filler cap - i assumed there was a blocked pipe, but since the engine still ran, and the fuel tap still worked fine, that it was the pipe that comes off the back of the tank...I tried to clear this, resorted to using some compressed air, and sure enough - a load of crap came out the pipe... Now though... the bike has started leaking fuel from that pipe...My two questions are: What is this pipe? is it an overflow, a breather or something different all together? (Haynes manual is no help) and secondly - Any ideas on how to fix it??Any help greatly appreciatedThanksGulliver Quote
Guest Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 leaking from the filler cap...umm, the cap itself should be sealed, it could be a mixture of fuel and water especially if left out, as the drain was blocked (sounds like it.. ) and the lip of the filler will fill with water/splashed fuel..need to know more about where you think the fuel is coming from and it might be an idea to use some/empty some and remove the tank..you will have a fuel line to carbs, a vacuum from carbs to overpressure the tank, and 1 or 2 drain hoses.. which run down to drain under the bike...re-reading it it sounds like you have cleared the drain pipe and now notice it working.. correct me if i am wrong... the fluid will smell of fuel but not strongly, as its residue from the pipe, with rainwater.. Guest Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 The cap was sealed - have looked at it and see no obvious breaks... have tightened the allen screws around it, no more leaks.. may have just been that...The bike is used everyday, and I'm sure it is a drain pipe, but the tank capacity is 16 litres, if I put half that in, fuel is leaking from the pipe. It runs out of the back of the tank, under the saddle and down the rear mudguard. Also, it is full-fat fuel, not diluted...Any thoughts?? Quote
Guest Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 recheck your pipes sounds like the fuel pipe is disconnected, and you have connected another...defo coming from a pipe...?otherwise you have a hole in the tank, not a problem, it can be fixed... Quote
