high power/long lasting motorbike battery..?

Recommended Posts

Killed my motorbike battery last night, 12 hours of parking lights means absolutely no power from the battery!

Im going to attempt to revive it tomorrow when I get the charger on it but i think its gone past fixing even for an optimate :(

So looking at long lasting/high powered battery for the Sv650?

I once left the parking lights on for an hour and the bike only just started, so would like something a little long lasting in case this happens in the future!

cheers!

you need to measure the dimensions of the battery to ensure it fits in the box...

go for a higher rated Ampage, like of the bigger SV??

or just be careful when applying steering lock...

Humm i usually check when applying the steering lock, and im sure i checked last night!!

Well i have the battery sitting next to me in the warm and the optimate looks like its doing its job :) (luckly, had about 2v when i checked)

Wont have time to fit it on the bike though, until tomorrow evening, so ill leave it connected up until then.

Looks like i may not need a new on after all (fingers crossed )

Hi, your standard battery is man enough to do the job of starting the bike. There’s not a battery on the market that will allow you to leave the parking lights on and leave enough power in the battery to start the motor in the morning. A quick calculation is to divide the wattage being used by the voltage, this gives you the amperes being used, you then calculate the amperes being used by the amp hrs storage of the battery. Normal motor bike batteries offer around 5 amp hr of storage. So, a 60watt lamp will drain this battery in 1 hr, and this is from a fully charge battery.

In your case you left you parking lights on so,

5 watts of tail light and a 5 watts front side light total = 10 watts divided this by 12volt = 0.83 amps consumed

A 5amp hr battery with a 0.83 amp load will last for about 6hrs from a fully charged state to being completly flat. Charge your battery back up and refit, l would,nt waste time or money chasing a bigger battery.

Hope this helps
