starting and idle problems

hi my bike has become hard to start and when you get it started it dies when you give it trottle.you have to rev it for a few mins before you can go.then when you go for a while and say stop at lights it will be either idleing far to high or not at all.also the trottle can be slow to shut down.ive had the carbs off and cleaned jets ect [they were spotless] and sprayed wd40 around the barrels and streched the spring on top a bit.it seems all ok.could it be somethimg else other then a carburettor problem

Hi, pop into newbies and say hello..

from your post the symptoms point me to the carb rubbers not being fitted correctly, when applying throttle you are sucking in air and weakening the mixture..

to confirm this start the bike and spray WD40 near the carb rubbers, an increase in revs means that the WD40 is acting as a fuel (its flammable) and must be entering through a leak.

fix the leak.

i sprayed them with carb cleaner [no leaks]

is it slow to lower the revs, but the throttle moves freely, as in snaps back when released...?

if not the throttle is sticking, might be caused by it rubbing on bar ends...

otherwise the cable needs oiling,

Is your choke suck on slightly?

I had similar problems, and uneven riding ("kangarooing"), idleing weird and the revs where slow to return to idling... found i left the choke on slightly, turned it off an all was fixed

took the bike out today and it seems ok.must have freed itself,and the reving must have been as chris says the choke stuck on slightly,thanks a bunch anyway oh another thing i just resprayed it and it looks a bit dull.what could bring up a good shine?

did you lacquer it? a normal coat doesnt have the depth of shine..

did you lightly sand the finish prior to lacquer stage? brings out a true colour

how many coats of lacquer..? the more the deeper the finish

its needs a buffer, mechanical polishing mop with polish.. to bring it up to shine.. have a look for car valeters, they have these kind of tools and a bike shouldn't take long..

dont know anything about painting.i just fixed a dent with isopon sanded it,primed it and used 2 cans of honda rio red thats it.on this bike
