CR80 driving me NUUUUUTZ!!!!!!

Hi to everyone. I'm new here and hope someone can put me out off my misery.Where do I begin. At the start you might say, well that feels such a long long time ago but I'll try.

I bought(for my daughter) a non running 2001 Honda CR80 in quite good condition so I decided to give the engine a full rebuild.I stripped the engine down and right enough piston, conrod bearing and seals could all do with replacing.Especially the big end as there was a lot of play on the crank.I had the crank reconditioned,re built the engine changed all the bearings, seals, piston and gaskets (the whole lot).Put the engine back in the bike and it fired up 2nd or 3rd kick. Then the white smoke strarted to belch out of the exhaust AND gear oil came dripping out of the front of the exhaust pipe. The right hand crank seal is not seated correctly I thought so off came the clutch casing and it did appear a little too far out so I knocked it fully into position.STILL white smoke and gear oil dripping out. Ah maybe the seal is bad. Bought a new seal. STILL the same white smoke oil etc.Split the engine AGAIN thought there might be a small dent in the casings where the two meet allowing gear oil to pass into cylinder hence the white smoke etc, so repaired with luquid metal and fitted NEW centre gasket. STILL WHITE SMOKE. What is going on here? Is the bike possesed?Am I going nuts? What have I missed can anybody HELP?

Thanks

Just fired the wee CR up again with new petrol mix and white smoke appears better also the oil dripping has got less. The last rebuild may have done the trick.Old oil left in exhaust and bad petrol being the cause this time.I'm just waiting on my 9momth old daughter waking up to fire the bike up again.Fingers crossed

Hi again,

I just managed to get a hold of my mate who has a bit more experienced in engine matters and he thinks all is in order with the engine,he could see no reason why oil is migrating into the chamber, any repairs I made are sound .Looks like a little instant gasket along with a new gasket set should do the job.So new gasket set ordered and ANOTHER rebuild it is , FINGERS CROSSED...... wish me luck. :thumb:

Hi cyberwolf

It's a two stroke but it's not the standard grey/blue plume that usually follows these bikes. I have split the engine again and am waiting on a new main bearing, crank seal and gasket set. I was advised to use good qaulity instant gasket along with a new centre gasket so I'll give that a try.It could also be a porous casing so i'm told and to run the following test to check where the oil is entering the crank chamber(lost 200cl the last time i fired the bike up)

Take the motor out of the chassis, drain the gearbox, remove the barrel, piston and clutch casing, sit it on the bench, fill the cases around the crank up with petrol, come back in a few hours. Any 'leak' should show itself, Petrol on the bench, its crankseals etc. Petrol gone from the crank but nowhere to be seen, its in the gearbox, so it's crankcase sealing or porosity. Both....time to worry!.

Also may not be a bad idea to and do a pressure test on the cooling system. VERY GOOD TEST

So if the new parts don't work I'll do the petrol test.

Thanks for your reply
