chris128 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 From what I understand, an open pit lane day is where rather than having 20 minute sessions on the track you can just go out and ride for as long as you want whenever you want. Obviously there is a limit to how many are allowed on the track at once and its this that I've heard bad things about... people saying that they had to wait hours to get on track and that its dangerous cos the really fast guys are out there with the novices. Anyone been to one and if so what was it like? Do you think one this early in the year would really be that busy?CheersChris Quote
Guest philgale Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 dont do it yet mate, wait till your times come down.ive done one at cadwell and its right you are waiting to get on track and TBH 20 mins is usually enough and by then your screwed and your concentration is dipping and your making mistakes.with times of 2.15 + you will get blown away, the videos i posted at cadwell was an open pit lane day.i would do another but its a bit of a ball ache taking your tyre warmers off going to cue up then getting out with stone cold tyres.id wait TBH, when your comfortably in inters, by that i mean top third of the group. then go for it.having said that there were some clear novice people on the day i was on, i actaully lapped a few and it cant have been much fun.what would you think if you went out in fast group now? thats basically what you will be doing with an open pit. Guest philgale Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Ah right haha I'll give it a miss for now then, cheers if you wanna do it, then do it....just know what your going on track with.i doubt the TDO would let you on only having done 3 days anyway.also check if there is a race there in the next few days, if there is it will be full of racers and they are seriously quick.i got a video of a guy on a gp250 come flying past my sv like i was stood still, weaved in and out of 2 then flew round the outside of someone else at island bend. never saw him again since also 2 brand new r6's sponsored by haribo were in fast group, my mate was there on an 08 r6 and he puts times of low 1.50's and these were 20 seconds a lap quicker than him but the 250 was quicker still Quote
Guest Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 My ex had opportunity to do this, and im sure he aint done more than a handful of trackdays.... he was knackered and losing concentration ... he went down to join the others, and luckily i talked him out of it, and hes glad he didnt bother... its madness!!
