ginge511 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Hi all.Getting fed up of all this of late.I went out about a week ago for a ride, after about 15 mind riding, steam started only a bit, coming out the side of my bike from under the tank. Now, was on the way to work this morning, and yet again it done it but this time there was quiet a bit of steam coming from under the tank?I checked the water level and it is full.Couldn't see where the steam was coming from as i had to pull over and check it out.The temps on my bike are totally normal. But don't forget, I've been having quiet a few starting problems and today was no exception.Could it be the head gasket on my engine?Of simply water running off the frame onto the engine? As it didn't do it at all coming home b4.Any idea would be great...Thanks Quote
ginge511 Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Is it def steam and not smoke?Yeah defiantly steam m8.Wasn't smoke.Weird thing is it didn't do it on the way home?Just starting off since it has been in the garage for 2 days not running before i went work this morning....Could it be the gasket? Guest Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Could be water getting on some thing hot .. Is it stored outside?Does it have a cover on?Have you had a good look to see where it is coming from? Quote

Guest Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Really hard to say Mine smokes every morning from places it shouldn't, but it is all the accumlated road grunge stuck to the underside. It doesn't do it when it is clean... Quote
techno Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Mine does it as well, when its just cold and mines garaged as well, also when its raining mine looks like its on fire when I stopped at all, does it stop after a short while???Seems if all the levels are ok nothing seems to be amiss Quote

ginge511 Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 yeah i agree with ive seen me ride in the rain with nothing amiss but stop and its like it has its own little sauna So it's probably just water hitting the engine?Or is it something more serious? As i just went for a spin then for half hour. And it was fine, didn't happen once... fazerboy Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 other than steam??appearing from under the tank is there any other worries about the bike?if not i wouldnt worry, starting bikes sometimes is troublesome with weather and temp problems due to the engine been open the the elements, but i wouldnt worry but if it does blow up tecno edited this thread to read like this with the wink Quote
Guest Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I would suggest it is residual water from your last ride that has drained and pooled onto parts of the engine, then turns to steam when you have the engine running... nothing serious Quote

Guest Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 try running the bike up and letting it stand until the fan kicks in. Then have a good look at all the hoses and jubilee clips. Make sure there are no splits or leaks. If your coolant level stays the same though its unlikely to be anything serious Quote
