Well, it's that time of year, and the bike's now out of hibernation. This time last year, it had a full service, ie, oil, filter, plugs, etc. Only done 900 miles in the year It runs like the day it was brand new. Is it still worth changing the plugs and air filter after such little miles?? Obviously will do the oil and filter Anything specific I should check for the MOT? There were no advisories last year, and it passed.

It's a 2001(Y) Bandit 600, with 10k on the clock

I'd leave the plugs but do the Oil filter and oil.

check/adjust the chain, when did you last have the brake fluid done, (every 2 years)

check fork seals for weepage, (MOT)

and have a general check over the bike,

Haynes produce a checklist in the manual so p/copy that, then tick off and make notes as you go round..

keep that with parts receipts and add mileage & date to the top, for reference.

Just what I thought, Walney. I've had the bike a year and not had the brake fluid done. Looks like that's my next job. Brakes are excellent but don't wanna take any risks.

Pardon my stupidity but why brake fluid every two years as not like that in cars, is it a different type of fluid ?

Thought you DID do brake fluid every two years in cars? My VW Bora's service schedule shows a brake fluid change every 2 years!!

Brake fluid gets hot due to the friction on the pistons/pads, if it has water it boils and induces brake fade, i.e. you have none.

which is why the makes of hydraulic fluid say it should be changed, the fluid attracts moisture from the air,

some dealers will do as a matter of course, as part of the service, depends on the age of the car, and where its being serviced...

Fork oil is another one that gets neglected, but after seeing the sludge that was in the Katana I overhauled. i would go 2 years with that, or when seals are replaced.
