Guest philgale Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hey there,Was looking at doing a track day, and just had a couple of questions.Does the 33bhp restriction carry over to the track? dont think your allowed a restricted bike on track, although your not restricted (you can ride a none restricted bike on track), you just wont be able to do MSV tracks (oulton, cadwell brands etc) as you havnt got a full licenseHow do I go about hiring a track bike? each track day organiser (TDO) works with hire companies, heard good things about smallboys they have some sweet bikesBest time of year to do a track day? summer coz of the sun, winter coz its cheapSome experiences of peoples track days would be nice too have a look through the TD section and read a few reports and some videos will give you a good ideaThanks Quote
chris128 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Yeah the 33bhp restriction is a bit of a pain when it comes to track days... that was one of the main reasons I took my test prior to the 2 year restriction period being over - so that I could go do track days As for what track days are like.. put it this way I went and did my first ever one in January this year in the freezing cold and wet, and I still enjoyed it so much that I have done 5 more since then and have 3 more booked over the next couple of weeks Quote

I reckonDay £120 cost is whatever it is on websiteFuel £20 (Inc 30 miles to and from) and the rest, i usual go through a full tank and a 20lt jerry can on a one day event, so more like 40 quidOil/Lube £20 not that much, oil change every 4 or 5 days quick lube before the dayLeather rental (£50) (my two piece does not zip together) sounds about right, although if you consider doing a dew days then it would be worth buying a setI KNOW!! IM POOR How much damage will I do to my tyres/ brakes/ engine (If I keep it shiney side up?) depends on track, anglesey will chew them up in no time, im expecting to go through a rear on the 2 day even i got there at easter Quote

I dont think the track will do that to my tyres depends what tyre as well, i use supercorsa sc1 or sc2 so quite soft for more grip but wear out quicker, ill get a pic of my tyre after my double at cadwell....its off the edge Quote
chris128 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I did 3 track days on my road bike (CBR600) at Cadwell and the tyres held up pretty well, certainly still no where near needing replacing and the brake pads have over 50% of their life left on them as well. Quote
Mikey Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Thanks for the replies I do have a leather racing suit, so I have saved myself a few quid there!Doesn't look like to many tracks are gonna be available to me at the moment. Will have to look around a bit more to find something suitable. Can I get a track license or something similar so I can ride MSV tracks? Quote
Guest philgale Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 you can do your ACU test (race license) but when TDO's or tracks know you have an ACU they may want you in fast group since it means you race or just do your test, tracks you can do...mallory, rockingham, anglesey are the ones i know of, anglesey being the best i wanna do mallory again this year, its a w**k track but a good laugh and your round in about a min so get lots of laps in...ring nolimits and tell them what license you have and then they will tell you what tracks you can do...
