Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 My SV is on stock wheels and tyres. What implications will have have if I take them down a rim size? And what would fit?Thank you! Quote
archiec Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 would slow you up and I don't think a good idea in general, you trying to get nearer the ground ruthie ? Quote

Fozzie Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 If your speedo is connected to the wheel then it would corrupt the reading, however some use a reading from revs and gear so check this out! Also you would accelerate faster but lose top speed. I wouldnt do it personally, no matter how short I was as it could cause a flurry of issues! Is it not possible to lower it anymore and if not maybe a different bike is on the cards? Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Speedo runs of the gear box! Hmmm... How much top end? I'm not a speed freak so if your talking top top end then no worries there! There isn't any way of taking the bike lower as there isn't any more play with the rear wheel / undertray clearance. Thanks Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) make tyre choice a PITA too! There are places that can work on and modify your suspension to lower it to suit you i believe! maybe this is worth a look ?EDIT: gah ok well how about a moulded seat? Edited April 26, 2010 by Anonymous Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I wouldn't do it either Ruthie. Just talking to my mechanic mate (sat over there *Dan points*) who agrees with my assumption that you are not going to gain a great deal by doing this either. Can you list what you have had done? EDIT: just re -read the RiDE article ..Have you had the seat cut down? And, like TheWife, Ladystar boots, which add height to the rider.. and can be used from bike to bike, and be a lot cheaper. Can you ask that mechanic man your pointing at, if he's a miracle worker! The usual lowering dog bones where NO good! So i had my own made, so therefore no idea of the measurement the bike has been lowered, forks dropped considerably and the seat has been destroyed! Couldn't afford ladystar boots £300! So had my own built up, going to get them done a little more, just worried I'd lose the feeling in em! Cheers Dan Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 he laughs Consider this quandry on my mind ... will do some digging and asking around ...My mechanic mate, has just suggested insoles in your existing boots? Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 changing the wheel would in reality mean changing the whole front end, as everything would be off front brakes to mudguard.. might be an idea to look at something lower, Virago/cruiser for instance... even a fireman... Quote

I have though about undoing the two bolts on the subframe to see if I can lift it up higher, so I can then fit slightly longer dog bones, that would also give me the chance to turn the shock up slightly to stiffen it but I wouldn't know how to remould the plastics! Hmmm don't fancy doing that... money's an issue as is know how! I really don't wanna go down the lines of another bike, It took me long enough to get where I am, I would just like to be a little more comfortable with her! I don't want to ride the fireman, I just want to find out who he is! Quote
