Guest Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 If you are trying to do it on the cheap .. Local engineering firm should be able to sort you out some box steel ... use this as an anchor point. The bolts (which hold it to the floor) inside the box section should be hidden by the chain ... A 'proper' ground anchor is preferable though. Prices from £20 and upwards. As for a chain, almax are market leaders I believe. You WILL pay for the priviledge though. If a ground anchor isn't an option, then a decent chain around an immovable object (like a lamppost) is preferable. This is all dependent on your budget, and the machine you are trying to protect. Pete Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I agree with Dan on Almax, they market themselves as unbreakable! But as Dan also says they're quite pricey...but much better to pay their price than lose a bike!I noticed a bike in London once that was chained up with the biggest chain I've ever seen. I think it was off a boat's anchor, the links were about a foot long each and were about 10cm thick lol! Not great for carrying around with you though...Whatever chain you get you need to remember that it's only as good as the object it's chained to. Lamp posts are great, standard street signs are NOT as they're surprisingly easy to rip out of the ground! Don't leave the chain on the back wheel alone, lying on the ground (easier to break the chain, or they'll just take the back wheel off with the chain attached). Do chain it to SOMETHING though, otherwise there's nothing to stop them picking the bike up and chucking it in the back of a van. Quote
Guest Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 i got a decent chain from ebay for £15 quid, not a known make but does the job.ive never used it with my 125 as i bought a disc lock. only £7 delivered from ebay, bright orange and came with a little water proof bag, 2 keys and a reminder cable. fits in my pocket so i dont have to carry a bloody great chain around with me.if your going to get a disk lock, you can get an alarmed one that will got off if the bike, or the lock is moved. 125db will get peoples attention Quote
