Guest Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 yesturday i fitted a radiator guard to my 2009 GSF Bandit 650 SA - very easy job involving removing the side plates via the 4 bolts.was careful on the install and had no problems. The next day, i took the bike out of the garage in prep for a big ride. moved it onto the side stand and loads of water came out of the radiator... gutted and needed to revert to the caronce back, i took the cover off and checked it over - the whole front of the radiator seems wet. Have refilled the water and dried the radiator with some kitchen roll to see what happens tomorrow.anyone seen this before? i checked over the radiator (under garage light) and could not see any obvious damage. Am pretty sure i did not damage it on install of the guard. Is it possible the bolts have a dual purpose ie hold on the side bracked/guard and act as drainage bolts? clutching at straws here.will report back my findings tomorrow when i can inspect under sun light.A Quote
Guest Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 did you fit new bolts or use originals, could be the new ones were longer and have holed the rad, otherwise could be the rad has been holed by a stone. Quote
Phill_vtr Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Did you clean it after fitting the guard or use it in the rain? I wonder if the guard has allowed water to sit on the rad fins. Was the water just water or did it have coolant in? Has your level dropped at all? Quote

That sounds like a possibility, I get loads of water coming off the rad area if I wash my bike with it on the centre stand, then tip it onto the side stand afterwards. Quote
Guest Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 you guys are right. I cleaned the bike earlier in the day on the centre stand. This morning the water was still topped up and no leaks. Took the bike out and no issues. So the radiator must have collected the water from the orginal wash. Come to think of it, the water did not have coolant in it either - don't no why i did not think that!!!cheers Quote
