Straw Walker Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I've just replaced the piston and barrel on my grandsons ped. It's fairly well run in now but I'm having trouble setting up the idle. It's a slide type that I know well from the old Amal Monobloc but I can't work out if the idle mixture screw is fuel or air bleed. It's a right sod to get at without taking off loads of plastic so it would be handy to know if I'm turning it the right way. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 the idle screw is often air mix basic rule is turn it all the way in and then out 1 1/2 turns as a starting point Quote
Straw Walker Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Thanks, the basic setting according to Mr Haynes is 1 3/4 turns out but it's not happy there and difficult to tell with these little 2 strokes if it's getting richer or leaner as the revs go up whichever way I turn it. It'd probably be easier with the drive belt off as the auto clutch cuts in as soon as the revs rise. 4 strokes and model glow motors are much easier Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 the further out it is the more air its getting so runs leaner Quote
Straw Walker Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Thanks for the info. I now have another rebuild to do as the boy has seized it again after just 150 miles. He says he wasn't ragging it but -------------? This is its final chance, next time it's spares or repair on E-bay. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 make sure if its 2 stroke that the oil pump is bleed properly and pumping correct amount of oil in if not sure add small amount of 2 stroke oil directly into petrol tank so that will help prevent it cooking might smoke slightly more but if its smoking then its getting oil........lol Quote
