You can learn basics on CBT. Many people go for CBT without ever sitting on a bike before and they are ok  When I did my CBT I had a 5 min go on my bike in front of my house and about 18 years ago I used to ride a moped for a few months so not much experience :) Don't be scared and go for it :thumb:

Any bike school will do CBT - give us an idea roughly where you live and I'm sure someone will be able to recommend somewhere nearby. All you need before you go is a provisional bike licence, which you probably already have if you have a car licence. If not you just need to apply to DVLA for one.

Also check what equipment your chosen school can provide, as not all will supply all the protective clothing you might want. If you're absolutely sure you'll want to go on and get your own bike, it may do no harm to get your own helmet & leathers in advance.

Your CBT IS your training to pass the CBT :)

I had no bike experience and did it over 2 days, we all learn at our own pace eh. I just needed extra time to absorb everything (being older was my excuse)

I actually passed my A2 with no lessons, but this was before mod 1+2 came into being.

CBT is a (usually) one day course - you turn up in the morning, possibly never having sat on a motorbike before, and leave at the end of the day with a basic knowledge of how to control the machine and a couple of hours' experience on the road. Provided you demonstrate some reasonable degree of competence, you'll get your certificate at the end of the day.

Once you have this certificate, called a DL196, you can ride a 125cc machine on the road with 'L' plates for up to two years, the idea being that you use this time to get in some practice with a view to taking your test and getting a full licence.

There is no CBT 'test' as such. Provided your instructor is happy with how you get on, you'll get your certificate. If not, usually it just takes another 1/2 day or so just to revisit anything you perhaps didn't pick up straight away - no big deal.

Ah great and do they provide the bikes etc? Also after that i want to get my a2 licence. Is this were there's two parts of the test called module one and two?

Yes, they'll provide the bike. In fact they may have a variety of different styles of 125cc geared bikes as well as scooters and mopeds to choose from. Tell the school what you want to end up riding and they'll put you on something suitable for the day.

The A2 licence means that, once you've passed your test, you can ride any bike you like provided it's restricted to 33 bhp or less. That limitation lasts two years, after which you're free to remove any restrictors and ride whatever you want. You'll do the test on a 125cc bike, and yes, it's the two part test (mod 1 & 2).

Don't forget that you'll also need to pass the theory & hazard perception test, even if you already drive a car. You can book this through the DVLA web site and I'd advise just getting on and doing it. You don't need to do it before CBT but you do need to have passed it before you can take your full test.
