suzuki gsx600f running problem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, ive recently bought a 1995 gsx600f, an it runs fine, no knocks, rattles, flat spots, nothing, except... when sat at lights for a fair while ticking over, the bike will die, ill restart it and it will run rough, im thinking on not all cylinders, give it a few mins and it'll kick back into life and all will be well. im thinking it may be the vaccuum fuek tap.

any thoughts???

hows the oil, the old GSXF is an oil cooled bike so stationary it will heat up. need to keep the oil topped up..

a trapped vac pipe will make it sound like a sick HD....

is it fresh fuel?

The oil is fine, it's fresh as is the fuel, which vac pipe do you mean, and what's an HD?? Cheers for your help!

the fuel tank has two pipes, ones fuel out , the other a vacuum in, to create an over pressure.

HD = Hardley Davidson

That sounds like it could be the problem! It sounds just like a harley and then eventually sorts itself out. I'll check the overpressure pipe tomorrow and see if it's blocked or getting trapped.

Replaced the vac pipe today. Went for a ride, all was well until coming off the dual carriage way. The bike cut out, I restarted it, it run, but lumpy and harley like. I then switched it off started it again a second or two later and it ran fine. Same happened at ever set of lights on the way home from then on!! Any ideas??

I've also just noticed the oil level seems higher than it shoul when on the centre stand, could this be effecting it??

sounds like you have a fuel issue, i would fit an inline filter in the fuel line, you just need to cut the line and slide in a filter, ebay or mandp for a fiver,

could be crud from the tank is making its way into the carbs..

did you have the leaking tap? could be the filter has disintergrated and is the crud.

It already has an online filter out of one of the fuel lines. There are two, plus the vac tube. The shorter nearer side doesn't have a filter. I'm not sure that crud in the carbs explains this, as it only does it when it's been ridden for about 45mins or so. Could fuel be the cause, the only thing I've changed is buying petrol shell instead of BP like usual!

as silly as it sounds make sure the breather around the fuel cap is clear as if there isnt enough air getting into the tank it will give problems like this and while running rough the air balance returns so will run ok for a while again

Will this be evident by a sucking sound if you open the tank?

I can't see any breather near the fuel cap, what am I looking for?

it is often small hole in cap itself brethes through key lock sometimes and yes when u open tank u get the sucking sound if its blocked next time you get the problem stop and open fuel cap bike should then be fine you just need to find air hole check around the seals on cap
