Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi all, well basically whats happened is the bracket holding my exhaust onto the rear footpeg has snapped. I believe it was badly fitted (years ago i think) because, well... look at it in the pics below :/So that needs fixing, since i can't weld i was going to use a spare piece of metal and rivet it back together... Would this be a viable option do you think? If not, i'll just get it welded.Anyway, since that broke, the weight of the exhaust has caused a crack in the connecting pipe (pictured). Can this be welded? And is that the best way to repair it? I have plenty of exhaust putty lying around somewhere i could use if that'll do.Anyway, advice would be great, cheers!http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n305/CobbZ_2006/7-2.jpghttp://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n305/CobbZ_2006/6-1.jpghttp://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n305/CobbZ_2006/4-1.jpghttp://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n305/CobbZ_2006/2-1.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry0ZTpjLxJ8 Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Welding the bracket should be ok... the exhaust may also be ok depending on material and whether its rusted, otherwise you'll just blow through.I wouldn't rivet it on... doubt it would last. Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Forgot to say, I'm sure Dan can weld so he'll have more info (probably Stu as well). Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Its fully stainless steel and as such, no rust at all xD Tar very much for that rick. Hopefully Dan or stu can shed even more light on the issue.Cheers Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 exhaust putty will work for a while but a weld is needed, so you may as well get both welded together... just remove the exhuast and approach a back street garage... Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 cheers si, will do that soon. Gonna see if i can find a way to secure it so i make it to the rally Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Welding stainless is a dark art ... not a skill i have unfortuantely ....... Need specialist kit (well, wire) for welding stainless. So taking the exhaust to someone with the kit is sensible option (like Simon said)In the mean time 'Super Steel' http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165691will get you outta the shit Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 cheers si, will do that soon. Gonna see if i can find a way to secure it so i make it to the rally defo... make sure that the can is secure and supported otherwise that crack wil lose you the back end... strap round it and through the rear hanger?? Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 What can I use to strap it with that won't melt?Cheers Quote
Guest Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 as its the end can then it shouldn't be that hot, a bungee will do. but i'll bring a small webbing strop, in case.. Quote
