Mk5Centurion Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 So a while ago i painted my frame - was pretty straightforward. Got myself a nice solid petrol tank from the bay of e (99p ), but painting this is a different ball game. I've sanded it down, filled in the dent and smoothed it over. Its been primed (1.5 litres) and the primer rubbed down with 1200 grit. Now i'm painting it gloss black (non metallic) - the question is, once the paint is on does it need levelled off? do i smooth it down with wet and dry again? do i use a finer grit than 1200?Any help muchos appreciated muchachos Quote
Guest Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 when doing my Katana tank it had a couple of coats of primer and 3-5 coats gloss, lightly rubbed down with 1200 wet and dry - WET, between coats,(water filled spray bottle works well) and cleaned off with white spirit and kitchen roll finally lightly rubbed with 1200 wet, cleaned again then laquered on top.use petrol safe laquer, preferably same make as paint.white spirit removes the sanded dust and greasy finger marks. leave to dry fully (incl white spirit)once left for a couple of days /week to cure, give it a good quality polish. eastanglianbiker Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 another trick is to use hand soap on the 1200 wet and dry as you are smoothing down the top coats Quote
