Bill_on_a_bike Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Right, read the haynes manual, sounds fairly straight forward, my only concern is I don't have a torque wrench. The only botls I'm really worried about are the clutch retaining bolts themselves, the pulse generator rotor bolt and the case cover bolts themselves. How important is torque settings for these? Or is "tight" with maybe a foot long wrench enough?YES I know this is lazy/tight but I also know that the hayne manual gives torque settings for bloody everything. Quote
Bill_on_a_bike Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Also, Should I soak new friction plates in oil over night? I heard you should but there seems to be confliting opinions on the internet. Quote
Guest Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 when you undo them it will give you an idea of how tight thay are, bruised knuckles = tight, bashed ones = very tight, and i need a fag/cuppa, means FFS how tight.. Quote
Guest Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 also as you are using a Haynes book of lies, you may want to read this...http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... 06&start=0 Quote
Bill_on_a_bike Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Don't worry I've prepared a good list of swear words to project loudly across my neighborhood when I realise it's all bollocks. You don't reckon clutch bolt will be too sensitive to torque settings though? Quote

You don't reckon clutch bolt will be too sensitive to torque settings though? The clutch bolt and spring bolts will have to be torqued, to ensure they are tight enought. the clutch spins at high speed and you do not want anything coming loose, recommended torque settings are given for a reason. not enough torque and the component may work loose, too much torque and you may stretch or strip threads.
