Guest Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Hello. So got my cheap chinese exhaust downpipes for my ZZR 600 and the four copper gaskets - now these gaskets I thought were going to be flat like the old ones but they are kind of thick and looks like be tapped at all over with a little hammerWhat do you reckon - flat or thick ok (4mm perhaps) and lumpy? Also the gasket sealant stuff I have kind of suggests in broken English that I should start the engine soon after fitting the pipes so that it heats up and seals properly but after doing the exhaust I gotta do the oil cooler/radiator and that could take a few days.P.S The garage said they didnt want to change the exhaust on my V reg bike (not the kind of job they like to take on - moaned about the exhaust studs probably snapping and difficult to get off) - well I got it off ok and only broke one stud and so what - only a quid for another - so thats why I am doing it myself and going ok I reckon! eastanglianbiker Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 thick should be ok as they will compress as you tighten the exhaust pipes up and if you use any paste they give you then you need to fire bike up to make it set i wouldnt bother with the paste i have only ever used just gaskets and nothing else Quote
