new bike battery non starter

Hi all.

Well this is my first winter where ive not ridden for 3 weeks.

When out today to start the bike battery as dead as a door nail.

The probablem is its a new bike (6months old).

My Question is :- Should this be happening or should i be taking it back.

Any info would help as i dont want to start moaning when it could be normal.

Cheers

There is a possibility.... but 3 weeks to kill a battery dead does seem a little bit excessive!

Assuming it was fully charged when it was left then it shouldn't have died. I left my ybr unplugged from charger for several months and started first time on the button.

But saying that, had problems with my SV's battery whereby I used it everday but heated grips and not very long journeys did kill it. Even the optimizer once a week or more couldn't keep it alive!

I now keep my ninja's battery constantly on charge when I'm not using it.

When you last used the bike, did you have heated grips on, or perhaps left parking lights on or did you just go for a small trip? Anything that may have partially discharged the battery would have sped up the process of killing it but I still don't think within 3 weeks is right.

I did a 60 mile round trip on it. which i do every day.

The lights are on permanant (unable to turn them off).

The heated grips were on but i made sure they were off before getting off it.

I can't put an optimiser on it as the bike is stored outside under cover in my neighbours garden.

I did'nt think this should happen but not laying up a bike for any longer than 2 weeks in the past. I was'nt sure.

Thanx for the advice

I'll call the shop tomorrow.

Yeah I would and see what they can do. Chances are it may go down as wear and tare?

There is one reason I hate heated grips and it seems to eat batteries. Did (like I said) for my SV last year and has done again this year (Well now my mate owns it but still) and the battery is only 12 months old. :|
