Rear wheel appears to have excess resistance

Hi, I've had a Yamaha SR125 since October, It was my step up from a scooter, It had a few problems with the coils and mid revs, but its been running good after some work, and a new spark plug. Now I've got a new problem, It seems like the back wheel is sticking, Its got loads of resistance, Its not freerolling properly in neutral, especially not backwards. Just trying to turn it round and roll it out of the drive it was giving me right jip. The wheel sort of locks up and hardly moves to the point the tyre drags. I have no idea what is wrong, but it's affected it in motion too, this morning it started struggling up a hill I've never had any problems with, and as soon as I let go of the throttle it stops within a few yards. Dont suppose anyone has experienced this problem?

The back drum brake is sticking, i can put money on it. Make sure its adjusted properly. I'd suggest stripping it down and giving it a clean, not a hard job. And make sure it's adjusted properly when you put it back together :)

I'd feared something like that, Ive not got much knowledge when it comes to the drums. I'll have to have a gander at the haynes on how to strip it I recon. Thanks :)

It's the easiest thing to do on that bike. When putting it back together after a bloody good clean, use plenty of copper crease (not on the pads) on the moving parts to keep it lubed forever more.

Bloody 'ell this bikes causing you a bit of grief aint it

Taking apart the rear drum brake is easy, crack out a haynes manual, and give it a clean using a brillo pad for the really grimey bits. Then as others said just re-grease all the moving parts and off you pop apart from the pads.

Its winter thats done it, we had 7 bikes in the garage left standing for a week or 2 and half of them wont move now.

Give us an update on how you do or ill just track you down in junction sometime
