Guest Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Hi with it now being january and me wanting to take my tests in march/april i thought id be a good idea to think about the costs of the tests.i looked on the dvla website and mod 1 is £15 and mod 2 is £75i dont really want to spend mega money on lessons. i think i could do with a 2 hour lesson for mod 2 as i dont really want to fail it being £75 a timemod 1 i was thinking of going for even if i fail first time and pass the 2nd time its cost me £30. lessons cost around £22 a houriv been riding since august and have done nearly 3000 miles since starting.id say im fairly confident but i need to practice my slow figure of 8s and U turns. i also need to pratice downshifting as i often find myself braking quicky and trying to set of again and i cant as its in to higher gear (125cc so constant gear changing)i dont really want to spend £370 on a 3 day course to pass as id rather use my own bike and just have a few lessons to pick up where im going wrong with thingswhat do you think ? cypek Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Have a look around in your local schools. Some allows you to take free 1hr assessment. Do it and instructor will tell you what you need to work on. I did it before my DAS and he said I need just a few hours to polish everything out and he was right Quote
Martyc Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I'd say do at least some training for the mod 1, just to pick up some tips because you have to do it what ever way you find easiest and you could end up failing on something silly and you'll be kicking yourself. The same goes for mod 2, the instructors will know the areas the examiners use and the little quirks that you need to know about to get thru. Where I live (Lowestoft) the roads have several odd junctions/layouts etc to catch people out and it's worth having the instructors knowledge to get you your licence Quote
Guest Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 right so if i have a hours lesson for mod 1 and a 2 hour lesson for mod 2so thats £22 training for mod 1 then the test at £15mod 2 £44 for training and then £75 for test£156 providing i dont fail any of the testsdont really want to spend anymore than £250 on getting full licence Quote
Guest Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 your gonna have a lot of sound experience having ridden, so find a scholl that will do a pay as you go type of approach rather than a course which you dont need!Be careful with Mod 1, if you fail, nerves can set in so I would recommend investing in at least 3 hours tuition, you wont cover much in 1 hour. Mod 2 likewise dont think its a walk in the park, you will have some bad habits having ridden independately, so again at least a 3 hour lesson again. 2 x 3 hour lessons and test fees should see you under your £250 limit Good Luck in your tests Quote

dingosteve Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 suppose how quick you pick up skill to ride a 500cc, 125 you can literally get away with anything, doing u turn on 500cc is requires much more skill. I think 350 400 quid is more realistic, dont cheat your self on trying to skimp on lessons. Quote
