rusty chain grrr

right this is doing my head in.

i got a new chain as most of you know 2 weeks ago. fitted it and iv used the bike probably 10 times since. iv only used the bike on dry days but i did go out with it the first time and it did rain a bit.

i cleaned the chain after the first ride and relubed it. i then cleaned it last weekend after i noticed some rust appear on the plates on the side closer to the wheel. spent a good 15-20mins with the bike on the padddock stand spraying chain cleaner on and scrubing the chain with a toothbrush. i got rid of most of the rust so i lubed the chain. bikes sat for over a week in the garage. went out today and theres more rust on the side closer to the wheel and also a few tiny spots on the other side. the chain is fully lubed so i cant see the point in spraying more lube on it.

i cant think what the problem could be. its sat in the garage all week. its not like iv been using the bike evreyday in all weather conditions i just cant understand why this is happening.

chain lube is motul road (wet lube)

chain cleaner is motul chain cleaner

im getting fed up with it now all i ever seem to do is clean the thing all the time. im doing evreything right the chain is tensioned i am througly cleaning the chain and lubing regually (infact too often)

i was going to upload some pics of the chain but i cant as i dropped my damn camera in water and now it wont work.

If it is as lubed as well as you say, I wouldn't worry Numbers, tis the links which need the lube the most. The side plates not so much. It could be that you haven't cleaned enough of the chain cleaner off before you lubed it? So when you lube it, the cleaner residue left behind dissolved the lube leaving bare metal exposed to the air...

i havent been taking the chain cleaner of so this might be the problem.

Easily solved then!

Don't lose heart mate, its only easy if you know how, and this is the learning curve!

Make sure you wipe off the cleaner after you have cleaned the chain (with an old rag or something) and once lubed, it should be fine :thumb:

shall i leave the rust for now ? dont see the point in recleaning and lubing it again
