Beta 250 zero ? clutch rebuild.

Hi, it's been 20 years since i played about with bikes but i am stumped by this simple cable clutch,

i have replaced the clutch and need only to put the cover in place and conect it to the cable. It has

a screw worm arangement so it will only sit right if it is line The trouble is when i hold it in place

the spring action on the clutch arm lever is in the wrong direction and when ia apply allen screws to the cover

the lever won't move left or right.

i am doing somethin wrong here but i just can't see it.
