bumble Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 is there any other way you can do this part of the test,im ok with all the rest apart from this,i can walk the bike forward no problem but walking it back hand on front bars and one on the back rest doing a semi circle im finding really hard, i trip myself up and constantly fear the bike is going away from me, no matter how much i have it leaning into me. any helpful tips Quote
iiisecondcreep Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 With both hands on the bars pull the bike backwards in a straight line, then push the bike forwards in a semi circle until you are in line with the other box, then pull the bike backwards in a straight line into the second box. This is the way I did it, sooo much easier! Quote

getready Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I also went with the "three point turn" method. Quote

haz_pro Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Aww haha. Ok so you drive into the space to begin with. When asked reverse the back completely straight backwards. This means you are still facing the space. The push the bike in a semi circle shape ( If the new space in on the left push the bike in a anti clockwise semi circle and vice versa). When finished you should be again directly infront of the parking space ( the new one, not the one you parked in initially ) how ever you will be facing forward. Push the bike directly backwards into the space. Job done. You can almost imagine it was a capital M joining the spaces ( but with a curve for the centre, not a v shape). Quote
Guest Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 im trying to figure this one out, my goodness im dumb lol Hi, I see from your sig that you passed mod 1. Did you go with the 3-point turn method? The manual handling part of the test was the only part I seem to have trouble with. I've been trying to do it in a single semi-circle but being fairly weedy I've been finding it a nightmare. I even dropped the bike on my first attempt during training! Like you said the bike always seems to be falling away. Got my mod 1 this Thursday so got to find the best way to nail this quick. Quote
getready Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 If you go with the "semi circle" make sure you are on the inside of the bike, much easier that way as your body weight supports the bike.Take your time as well, there's no limit on it (within reason). Quote

Thanks for the advice, I went for the semi-circle option. It wasn't pretty but I managed it and passed mod 1 with zero minors! It really wasn't all that bad. Quote
