toby1 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Just introducing myself to the mysteries of countersteering. Can anyone explain the full process? Can anyone assure me at 50+mph I can knock the handlbar to tighten a turn by increasing lean, but not end up in the hedgerow? toby. Quote
sparkeh9 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) Countersteering is hard to get your head around at first, you countersteer without even knowing it, leaning around a corner, you unwittingly push your arm in the direction you're leaning, thus countersteering.Conscious countersteering also helped me become a better rider. If you can find it, get a copy of Keith code - twist of the wrist. there is a book and a DVD. Edited June 13, 2011 by sparkeh9 Quote
Colin the Bear Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 No knocking of the steering. http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/69.gifCounter steering is something that you are doing unconsciously or the bike would not turn. If we make a point of being conscious of it we can better control it. Aproaching the corner adjust your speed to suit conditions. Apply gentle pressure away from you to the inside bar. Bike will tip in. Keep pressure on barApply throttle.More throttle to run wider, less throttle to turn in.Smoothness is the key. Practice is the solution. In time it will become second nature Quote
