Guest Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 i have 2 days of training later this week and my mod 1 on sunday iv been out practicing my slow riding which is almost at the standard i want it at. anyway one of the things that bugs me on the roads is when you get to a set of lights and you want to turn right you indicate to go into a seperate right turning only lane. at this point does the right hand indicator need to stay on ? i normally indicate to get into the lane but then switch it of as its obvious where the lane of traffic will go. however many cars tend to leave them on so if any one could clear that up it be great. other than that think im all good. will be practicing more slow riding this week to get my uturns right Quote
sparkeh9 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Im honestly not sure, but if it's obvious that there's nowhere else I could possibly go, then I turn it off. I think on my test, I left it on until I'd completed the maneouvre. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 would of said leave it on so that any oncoming trafic also know what you are planning to do Quote
Sparky65 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 would of said leave it on so that any oncoming trafic also know what you are planning to do That was the advice given to me by my instructor before I did Mod 2 last week (and passed first time). The scenario she painted was to imagine that you were in a queue of vehicles in a right-hand turning filter lane and a car was covering up the painted arrow on the road surface. If you weren't indicating, it could make it more difficult for the oncoming vehicles to be alerted to the fact that you might be about to turn right in across their path.I'm not sure how many oncoming car drivers would be looking at the road surface for a visual sign that traffic may be turning right, but I can see her point. So, best advice would be to leave it on. I reckon the only problem you'd face in a test is if you forgot to turn off the indicator after completing the turn (but that applies to any manoeuvre where you're using the indicator, not just a right-hand filter lane turn). Remy Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Yes I'd leave it on too - during training I got into a RH only lane and turned my indicator off, my instructor told me to leave it on. Quote
getready Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Leave the indicator on (you're still turning right), and if it's a dedicated right turn lane adopt a central position, rather than to the right at a normal junction. Quote
