Guest Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I have a 1998 honda xlr 125, when in neutral it starts on the button and runs fine, very sweet engine, but as soon as I try to select a gear the engine cuts out. It sounds like it is a deliberate cutout - like a safety feature. There is no switch on the kickstand, so that is not the problem. Could it be a dodgy microswitch on the clutch, and if so is there any way of removing the safety system.ThanksLouis Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 if there is a switch on the clutch remove it from the rear of the lever and trace wire back into rear of headlight unplug it and then put a wire into the terminal to lnk both sides see how it is then Quote
Guest Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Yeah, I'll try that tomorrow, that could work. Thanks for the quick reply Quote
keith565 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 could it be the side stand cut off switch, do they have one. Quote
Guest Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Yeah I heard it could be that but the bike doesnt appear to have one. Does anyone know whether the xlr should have one as stock.cheers Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 dont think it does but if there isnt one you can see and it has always run fine before then that wont be the cause as those wires would of been bridged already Quote
Guest Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Just got it working, turns out it was the kickstand switch or lack of one! I joined the wires together so the bike "thinks" the kickstand is always up.Thanks for your helpLouis Quote
