Lumor_uk Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 So I've replaced the gasket because I pinched the last one after doing the valve clearance, what am I doing wrong, it's still leaking Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 are you making sure that both mating surfaces are clean or any residue compounds that might of been used and then using a smear of silicone sealant round both edges of the gasket will help seal it also dont just do it up work in diagonal on the bolts to tighten it down Quote
Lumor_uk Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 There is a matt texture on the outside edge as if a paper gasket has been used in the past but is hard to get off and to stop bits going in the engine. There is a polished surface on the inside edge where I thought the gasket sits .Any ideas? Wouldn't silicone melt and go in the engine? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 not if you use the proper gasket sealant it will be fine you will only want a very light smear round it to just help take up any gaps Quote
Lumor_uk Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 cheers it worked. But i don't look forward to taking off the rocker cover for next time. Quote
Colin the Bear Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Grease works as a sealant too. A smear on each side of the gasket. Use a scraper to clean up the surfaces. A smear of oil on the head will stop the silicone sticking for easy removal next time. Quote
